  2. My point in a nut shell! Most of us would share experience to someone in the dark about such things. Its how we all learn... by mimicking.
  3. Yet another way to make profit! It will not be a ''Law'' it will be a new ''Regulation''. What is really needed is better training and education. Car drivers have rigorous training and so should anyone in control of a vessel.
  4. oh yes.... the vet nurse gave him a number to call to update the info.
  5. AH HA!!! Oakey's owner has been found! WOO HOO!!! A member of staff from BW gave me a good lead and i found the owners boat only 30 min walk from my own boat! Small world! Oakley and owner are together again !!!! YAY!!! Well this has restored a little faith back into BW's reputation..... Thank you very much Debbie! Happy new year to you all.... Nick and Oakley will be joining our new year canal bash as a result...
  6. Ah bless, sorry to hear that. I think he will probably be re-homed to a local lady boater if no one comes forward. She is taking care of him till then. He curled up on her chair last night like he has always been there..... such a sweet little thing.
  7. thank you everyone who has replied ... the dog ''Oakley'' will be staying onboard the vet nurses NB tonight ahhhhhhh bless and has a poss home from another boater if no one comes forward. I think your right, the chips details may not have been updated, with so many views to the topic im sure we can re-unite! In the mean time he will have lots of cuddles and love.... Thanks Haggis thats great!

  12. My mate has been living on the canal for 6 mths and wants to no if she can get freeview or sky through her 12v t.v. Any help, suggestions or comments are greatfully received! Thanks!
  13. Also, you might be aware of this already, have someone with a fire extinguisher inside while you weld if it is insulated with polystyrene!
  14. Sorry... i used to live on a residential mooring then became a cc'er,during my Residential time these things happend... a fellow boater was harassed 'severely' by the warden, he even recorded his abuse with a dictor phone, so no denying that and many witnesses! Just a clash of personality s i suppose. The water issue was a big problem because 3 of us did not have engines and one had 2 small children.. so i do think they should of at least helped the family with children ! After all we do pay for these services no? I also disagree with giving one cc'er immunity from moving ( 3 years!! ) in exchange for inside information within our community... but thankfully that warden has been given the boot! He did serve 30 years in the 'met' so explains the overly officious nature!!!
  15. MANY of us called BW and the EA but still.... nothing... for 6 weeks! It was foal! If that had happened at the town end it would of been sorted immediately! My point is... they simply dont care... out of sight out of mind... as long as you pay and keep your mouth shut of coarse. also... i did see a couple of people dump there waste into nearby bushes!!! how often this happened during 6 weeks is any body's guess. Still, Nice to know my money is going towards the upkeep of the canals though...
  16. at the time i had no engine...and no car to drive it to the next one up
  17. Wow, you are very lucky then! Maybe its just round my parts??... We have BW not recognizing partnerships( flat out refusing single people the right to add a partner to the licence and or mooring), bullying ( now being taken to court ), One warden allowed immunity for one CC'ER for inside information against other residents , who had 3 years worth of mooring for free( he has now been forced into retirement), last year we went 7 days without water ( no one came to give fresh water) if we were living in a housing estate that would of made head line news!. Went 6 weeks with an overflowing elsan point to the point that we were walking through s**t ( 3 miles from the next elsan point ) which most people find difficult to walk with a wheel barrow! Think ill stop there or i may seem unreasonable.... Weather your a residential moorer or CC'er BW govern there own laws and treat us like second class citizens but maybe thats just where i am...
  18. its near on impossible to get a residential mooring nowadays anyway, BW put them up for auction for leisure only mainly.... I lived on a residential for 3 years then when i split up with my partner i bought my own and now cc. i feel the BW want to break up the community for fear of strength in numbers.... I can see the canals being only for the wealthy. The residential mooring i used to live on is slowly but surly being replaced by non LA's, they will win if we dont put up a bit of a fight. Why cant they make more residential moorings available? They would make much more money and keep boaters happy at the same time?. I definitely dont mind paying for one! I have lived in oxford my whole life and work in the boating community. I have had notices in the past even with a valid reason for not moving ( waiting for engine and welding work ). Are there any rights for traditional communities?
  19. Agenda 21 mooring community was created in 2000 under the EU initiative providing for official sanction of traditional communities, after lengthy negotiations between oxford boaters co-op and BW. Agenda 21 boaters are permitted to moor anywhere within 5 designated zones between St.Edwards field and just north of wolvercote lock.
  20. ' EAU DE BITCHUMIN&MUSSELS ' Available in all good boat yards across Briton now!
  21. MMMM... See your dilemma, well most spots further away from town are 14 day moorings. Closer to town the days get shorter. Biking into town even from the kidlington area is defiantly do-able, 5-6 miles? And as for leaving them, they are pretty safe, ive not heard of anyone having any trouble, There are always lots of people about to keep an eye out, leave your number with a few neighbours just in case. You can buy a winter mooring which is about £250 for i think between sept- march ish. There are boats that come up with moorings but more pricey. An Agenda 21 Mooring, attached to a sale, is an extra £10,ooo and im fairly sure it can only be transfered once, but ill check on that. So always check its transferable with the seller first. Moorings tend to go pretty fast here so act fast if you see one! Hope thats a help.
