I would be interested to know how boaters can measure their environmental footprint accurately, since all the (free) sites to do so on the web assume you live in a house. Maybe someone else who's been in this conversation knows?

Just checked Waterscape web site and the entry for the stoppage at Castleton has been removed - does this mean the situation has been resolved and the canal is now open?

Don't bother with mattresses at all! A pile of two or three duvets used as a mattress is just as comfortable as a futon, cheaper, easier to wash, less susceptible to damp, and much easier to move and store.
