  1. The Mad O' rourkes at Stourbridge is now closed Tim
  2. Hi Terence Edgar makes and paints some beautiful ones, have a look at www.canalartbyterence.com Tim Yorke
  3. Thanks everybody for the information Tim
  4. Hello everyone today is a good day, I managed to log in after only 4 attempts. I have my BSS examination coming up and need to replace the fuel filter (its a cartridge type), because it has aplastic nut on the bottom. Can anybody recomend a suitable supplier for said item, preferably in the west mids area Thanks Tim
  5. Thanks all for the input I can't check voltage at the moment as I've disconnected the batteries and dismantled the engine room. As soon as its all back together I will investigate. Just to clarify ,Gibbo, are you saying that voltage should be above 14V with batteriees virtually fully charged. My other major plan is to buy the managment a book!! Tim
  6. Thanks for the information. The impression I am getting is that its probably best to stay with the existing alternator, and take the boat out more often. It generally has plenty of time to charge, but what I really need is a bit more capacity so that the managment can watch the TV whilst the beautiful english country side is slipping past gracefully and still use the hair dryer at night. I presume the best way to check the output voltage is stick a voltmeter across the battery with engine off and on. What are the likely reasons/ remedies for sub 14V output thenks Tim
  7. hello all I am currently resiting the batteries on my boat and am thinking of putting an extra battery ( currently have 3 x 110 amphour with a 75 amp alternator). I realise that I should uprate the alternator, and intend to put a 100A alternator on eventually ( when time, money, and the rest of life permit) . My question is will it do any harm in the short term to charge 4x110Ahr batteries off a 75A alternator My second question is am I likely to be able to easily uprate to a 100 A alternator. Will I be able to run it off the same pulleys, and a single belt. I presume I will need to uprate the wiring from the alternator Any advice suggestions etc would be welcome Tim
  8. Thanks everybody for your experiences and suggestions. Looks like I've got another job to do then
  9. hello everybody I am planning on doing out the engine room this year and I need to create a proper space for the domestic batteries. (BSS examination this year). To do this I am planning on moving my calorifier from th engine room to under the bed. Can any body see a problem with this in principle. It will mean the calorifier will be 4or 5 feet further away from the engine, which is our only source of hot water at present. Also what pipework would you recomend. Currently it is piped with rubber hose from the engine. Any suggestions/ advice would be welcomed thanks Boaty
  10. Thank you all for your useful information. I think I will have a bash at tapping a thread in the cabin side, fix with ss bolts and then test the step with the wife thanks Tim
  11. Hello I've been painting my boat this year (well actually I've been watching it rain mostly). In preparation I removed the side steps, unfortunately I thought the boat side was threaded but it isn't, as witnessed by the tinkling sound as the nuts dropped away inside. To get at the nuts I would have to remove some nice hardwood tongue and groove. my question is, if I tapped the side of the boat and screwed into this would it be strong enough to hold a step. Ive also been looking at things called nutserts, but I dont know if theyare suitable for 6mm steel Any comments, suggestions, advise or symptathy would be welcome Tim
  12. Thanks Andy The other picture would be useful. Is the sliding plank held in place at the bed end by being retained in the runners (If that makes sense) thanks also to others who have replied TIM
  13. I am contemplating building a cross double bed , as my good lady is not happy with the 3/4 "coffin" in our cabin. Has anybody got any advise/ experiences/ plans for construction of same. All replies gratefully recieved Tim Yorke
  14. I'm looking for a mobile boat mechanic, or failing that one that stands still. My boat is on the shropshire union a couple of miles north of Norbury. It needs servicing and I've got a bad back can anybody help!!!
  15. Thanks one and all for your comments It has given me some food fort hought. My original reasons for aquiring the generator were two fold. 1) it was free and 2) I need to run some small power tools as I am painting the boat this year. The battery charging was a secondary thought as the generator has a12v dc outlet. Its nice to no I wont be damaging the alternator Boatystuff
