  1. Hi, Would you be able to tell me where you purchased this from as ill be needing a j.j.c doug moore one or three
  2. HI, And yup it is well built but now having issues let us just say the boat came with a tent now winter has just passed i found out why and currently fixing said issues ,i think just bringing it into the 2022 year not 1978 as year of her birth. But Yup overall a solid boat and i will find out most of her past
  3. Hey Everyone hope all is well , okay where to start ! we own a jjc boat which we just found out was released onto the waterways in 1978 as far as we know its the first one J.J.C built and released from wigan, we me and my girlfriend have researched J.J.C but really not much is know apart from snippits of information which has not helped in our first ever narrow boat. we had no idea on new safety regs on boats nor the fact due to the age of it needs to be survey for the insurance. but with a bmc 1500 engine where the starter just gave up the ghost this was not possible, well after going around in circles for moths spoke to the waterways who have issued a exemption to the safety for the boat. after 6 months of owning the boat so far we found all the rust within the boat from leaky windows which we found during winters storms (now we know why there was 3 tents in the boat to cover the windows when it rains) and dealing with the windows while this amazing summer weather is here. The engine we have arranged for a full rewire and rebuild as its all over 40 years old and shows its age, so another job which is to be done. all in all we are learning lots all of the time from other boaters or just good advice from other users of these forums, and with lots of help and advice off the river trust who have helped advice me to no end and so has the local officer he knows the boat is broken down and been amazing within his advice and help. I would just like to know if anyone knows of how these boats are registered with the local councils when they get launched could you let us know as i am trying to find out as much on this boat as possible.. as we are still learning so much hand in the right direction might be helpful. finally this is what our boat is starting to look like ... take care speak soon thank you all for good advice
  4. yup's i accept this without a doubt i explained in my last post what my plans where i was dumping 5g into it in April so get it checked rust sorted and re-batton the windows dry out the hull which will be wet from leaks or even just long term condensation damage, hot boat cold water condensation would build up over 40 years and become water in the hull get it checked to see if re-platting needs doing . the reason im this side of the water is i bought the boat a week before the ribble link shut and after that point cause of winter stoppages i have not been able to move the boat out of the area .. maybe best way forward would be to leave the bat near farm land strip it out where it stands and just have it ready for being pulled in April at last i got somewhere rather than being called cheers slow and steady
  5. yh i just figured that when i spoke on the forums i think it was two posts ago ... on that consideration i wouldn't either to be fair.. it is coming out in april as soon as the link opens up so i can get it lifted and have the hull checked while its out and was planning on doing ballast and the inside while it was pulled out as so much better just get a skip and sorted
  6. stop being suchh a dick really you are one yourself really arnt you .. how about you try conversation and understanding of others points of view as ive spoken to someone decent and they have explained maybe its just the fact they didnt want work going on my boat as it was moored thats fine but calling me a dick nice welcoming place this site isnt it !!!! and how do you start a argument in a empty room !!!its empty so you yourself are not even in the room, so their is no one their so all you would get is silence ...do you allways use stupid sayings that really are stupid as if you take them word for word they cancel each other out and no wounder nick don't get along with you ..do many people ? so ill tell everyone what ill do then just scrap the boat and go back to normal life simples cheers all take care have fun enjoy life
  7. Thank you for explaining , right okay so as they know it needs doing up they would rather there patrons not subjected to noise and work around them while paying for peace and quite on the marine they are staying on ... there we go answered thank you ...finally we got there after my attitude being blamed, me being blamed , all im trying to do is bring a boat what has a strange history back to life again for another 40 years but this with the work side this i understand thank you
  8. so talk english please then I can understand carnt i ?
  9. all i can do is hope i suppose. boats survived the storms we have had so far so its doing well providing its moored off far land at the min must admit one thing canal trust have been amazing with me and issues ive faced since i purchased the boat and the grace they have been allowing due to winter stoppages etc ..it just keeps me awake at night storms etc hoping it not damaged or broken in to as so far ive put about 3 g into it and just do not want it naffing up..this year its going to need at least a strip down inside all ballast removing and hull checking and sorting, i just cannot do that at the canal side either as public are allways walking past,i do not want to chance and accidents. right so your saying st marys snubbed me cause of some guy chasing his mrs around the site last year ...that wasnt me nor did i even own a boat .. so why should i be snubbed cause of someone else's actions ?
  10. yh i heard the story from last year and also saw the boat when it went down on the rufford branch end of last year .. also saw the woman who owns it trying to sell it she got offered less than 1g which was sad really to see ... all i wanted was somewhere to house the boat while i got on with my last year of uni work, finish my dissertation on the Ribble hydro scheme and then move on the boat
  11. Cheers The Happy Nomad, so basicly just remove my log in details from my pc and don't come back ill do that ... got to go now as having engine serviced this afternoon cheers anyhow
  12. so a few st marys patrons in here then ... hummm
  13. with a recession coming i hope they stay full.. and peacefull, im not the person who chased his wife around the marina last year he was a big shinny boat ...and if my attitude is the problem why have me and fetllers warf just been giggling together on the phone while writing this post ? How am i is being judged well i do my best to not be short and when the guy said it was all about he money ..thats fine and i think ill be saying i hope you all take care including the ones putting blame on me ..im off closing account on here and doing the canals on my own now .. i see why a few boaters just do not bother at all with others ,,,,
  14. my tone of post is that like i smell a funny color ? eg you cannot have a tone within the written word ...
  15. I Think this is the wrong place for me in total .. i do understand how money works ... but when you try and apply they wont even put your name on a waiting list and my attitude what just wanting to put my boat in somewhere that wont be kicking my P.T.S.D off nightly thinking about damage to it . and if my attitude was at fault why did the other marina be okay with me as they also called me today to offer me a spot ? . so rather than judging someone on a post.all cause i got told it was cause my oat wouldnt bring much money into the place and sorry but saying that my mate was also at fault for ordering food from a cafe now your just blaming us really ? i think canal world may not be the place for me to be a part of ..
  16. so like any people its just about the oney and fro posts on this group im the one in the wrong okay leaving site ..have a pop when you see me on canal ..and why should i pay for a 60ft boat when i have a 35 foot .think ill sell my boat and give up canals rather not be near people like this
  17. so my attitude ? what asking if i can put my boat in their full time i think you are being judgmental on me for what wanting somewhere to PAY money to allow me to park up like everyone else and not be snubbed for having only a 35 foot boat ?
  18. well as a new narrow boat owner ive asked this place a few times if they have spaces each time fobbed off. well today i asked again and more or less got told cause i have a 35 foot boat and they make double off a 60 ft boat they prefer the big boats as they make more profit ... well excuse me so this place its all about the money and looks, me having a disability and needing a home mooring didn't even come into it with these lot .while i was their my mate went for a brew at the cafe and also got spoken to like rubbish what cause he works for living ... woow ... all i can say is i know posh hotels and things are out their but marina ...come on it has 1 laundary room 1 toilet and 1 cafe you aint that great ..stay well clear if your working class or dont act posh but i phoned the marina across the way fetellers warf and they was amazing put my name on their waiting list told me the prices and payment options the lot ...i just dont understand why a place would be like this...
  19. Hi guys just reading this post we gained a old jjc boat a few strange things about it ,it has jjc on the Hull welded. But no other numbers or id plate it has a cruiser stern but only 37ft long we know it was on the wigan canal in early 80s,but very little else we know ..it also has slatted windows but from what we researched jjc was not really doing canal boats until 1984-85 also we found out its named on the wigan edition of monopoly....so any ideas ...attached is a pic of her in her better days ,and what we are aiming for
  20. Weed hatch I've not seen yet but I will have a look when at the boat tomorrow day off today as back in uni from Monday but ill have a look take a photo and upload what I see thank you all for your help
  21. Oh yh and its booked in to be pulled closest time we could get near us is 6 mths from now ...we had planned on getting sonic survey of Hull done then and a reserve for replacing if needed . It feels like when I had a moutin bike as a kid and the peddle miss shaped from the square bearing rod assembly on the peddle assemby and used to make my peddle jump a little ...I suppose what I'm saying is if its two squares which lock on a tapered rod feels like either the handle or the receiver square are now diamond shape and giving play ..does that make sense and if so could I add weld and resquare it ? By grinding it to shape?
  22. Hi nope this one is front cabin lounge with mid area toilet and shower area and kitchen on the stern near the stern deck doors, there is a ballast issue but im assuming that's how the weight profile was designed for natural buoyancy and as 40 years past stuff got taken off changing the weight profile so I know the floor needs to come up for a rebalance of balast .... Nope didn't get a survey its was a on the spot decision..stupid I know but hey ..to late now let's bring her back to former glory
  23. Hi guys and gals ...First of all hello we are new here and to narrow boating. We have just bought a early 80s jjc doug moore 37ft with a bmc1500d engine ...this we have researched this week ...okay so we got most things sorted and fixed so far ,im doing bach of sciences engineering which helps . But here is the issue the swans neck turns about a foot before it grabs the rudder to move and the same in the opposite direction leaving a so not great steering narrow boat I have not been able to find many examples of steering schematics on these things or many problem shooting directions for this problem itself ....could anyone advise please so I can carry on making my boat well the second mrs better
