  3. Great weekend here in Dublin too, nothing but bright blue skies and sun! It was like a sauna inside my hoody and leather jacket while walking te dog yesterday, since I dont have my own boat yet im gonna head out for a nice long dirve on my bike. Ye cant waste a day off like this.
  4. I will have to dig it out, but I will post it as soon as i find it!
  5. not exactly rubbish but some odd things i remember are Dead rotting sheep, a giant sunken anglers keep net which got caught in the prop, and over the years a few "floating islands" as we called them - the big chunks of canal / river bank that break off, float away and have to be pushed aside (big enough to be walked across without them sinking altho not recomended) we also have an old photo of my dad about 20 years ago pulling a goat from the canal who apparantly was so exausted that it was walking along the canal bottom with just his head above water.
  6. Just a suggestion, as someone who has been looking at various boat designs and trying to gauge average prices, accesorys ect ect... it would be handy if possible on a builders website there was a detailed list of lets say the most requested or standerd hull types with a given price, the potential buyer could then add on whatever he/she wants included in the build. would make the "mind boggling pre-buying research" a hell of a lot easyer. the potential buyer could then contact you for any specifics or for confirming prices and anything els that needs more detail. So basically giving the person the abillity to work things out for themselvs and saving endless replies to phonecalls, letters and e-mails. Let them work it out and if they are interested they can get in touch. There is no such thing as a time waster, if someone is about to make one of the biggest purchases of thier lives of course they are going to ask loads of questions and shop around before they commit. just my two cents
  7. Thanks for all the advise everyone there is a lot for us to reconcider now, step back and look at things from a different angle kind of thing. Just totally confused at the moment, but hey - thats boats for ye LOL!
  8. hi all, Its been a while since my first introductory post, but now that wer getting that much closer to our barge becoming a reality there will be alot more input from myself! so apologies for being rude and reading but not posting up until now. anyways back on topic. myself and other half have been planning for years now on living on a barge (in Ireland) and have been pretty much living in a bedroom the past couple of years. all was going well until we hit a brick wall - basically "Barge" marine mortgages seem to be non excistant in Ireland. apparently barges do not fit the marine mortgage cryteria. Whats all that about? I dont understand it iether. So what Im asking is - are there any others here that have any experiance with mortgaging a barge in Ireland? also it looks like we will be having the Barge built in the UK as we cannot seem to find any builders over here. any tips, pointers or advise would be much appreciated. Thanks Colin
