  1. If the pump is a pig to get to, then I'm assuming you can't see all of the pipework either. Could the suction pipe (between the shower drain & pump) be collapsing under the vaccum, de-laminated even and that's what you have found in the filter? Try connecting a good bit of hose to the pump inlet and pumping a bucket of water, if all OK, then you know where the fault is. Impeller pumps usually go spuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrt, diaphram pumps go spurt spurt spurt spurt spurt spurt. Edit: OK, I just noticed the date on the posts!
  2. For the fun of it, you could rent a minidigger for the weekend and dig your own private 60ft long canal
  3. I was told by my BSS examiner in 2007 that if the devices are after an isolator switch, they don't need fuses at all to be compliant. Obviously it's a pretty good idea to have them though and I do... now.
  4. If you snipped them all at the same time or the live caught a ground somewhere else, that'll pop the fuse. Otherwise, check your connections are good, could just be a bad joint.

  6. The instructions for mine say that for mid to low levels it considers the amount of CO over time. This prevents agiainst false positives e.g. short bursts of high concentrations. I know it works, because my flue collar is right next to a mushroom vent and I don't have a chimney since I rearranged my stove last week It's been out since I came home and discovered my detector chirping.

  8. Isn't that the same as the boat number? I.E. the number printed in the top right of your expired licence and/or displayed on your boat somewhere.

  10. Take a look at 3's MiFi, it's a 3G non-dongle. You don't connect it to your laptop via USB, rather it converts the 3G signal to WiFi, it'll be much easier to connect a PS3 or any other device... plus you can use it at the same time as him (till he moans you're slowing it down).
  11. Hi, I have direct experience of two-way satellite broadband. In my opinion it's only good as an absolute last resort. Latency for gameplay is key as someone else has already said, the ping times I saw on that (BT supplied) kit was horrendous, > 1,300 ms. The transfer rate downstream is good, but the typical usage allowances are poor value. If you don't get an automatic tracking dish then it will become the bain of your existance trying to align it, these are significantly more touchy than a Sky dish. Try a 3G dongle first, it might not work in a few places but it's nothing compaired to two-way sat comms.

Of course you're right. As with most things, the more you buy and/or comit to buy, the cheaper the per item price is. My point was simply that you can today get mobile broadband at £1 per Gb.

I already pay that, £15 for 15GB / month from Three on one of their better USB dongles, not the cheap tat ones they give out like Skittles. Best of all, I get better speeds in the evening than all my colleagues do on Sky Connect

  15. Even if you have to wait for a while, try to share the Devizes flight with someone both ways (assuming you're on a skinnyboat). The extra crew to set the locks up will make it faster an much more enjoyable.

  18. Finally, a pool table suitably sized for a narrowboat... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260516239520
  19. I've just got into this. I made a wire cage to hang potatoes wrapped in foil at teh top of my Davey Hot Pot over a low heat. I can get two good sized baking potatoes in at once, turn them after 30 minutes and Mmmm, lovely free cooked food.
  20. Does it have a little LED that flashes, if it does, how many times does it flash?

  22. I don't know these pumps, but aren't there some bilge pumps that work by turning on briefly every few minutes/seconds and sensing the power used to turn the pump. If it's higher then expected it'll keep running till it drops. Perhaps you have this type?
