  1. They have a mooring nearer to Oxford
  2. I was on about the other boat though. the one with no id at all
  3. Yes, he said we would have to be patient on this one.
  4. It is BW property, its just next to the towpath It has been said that the people on the boat are Doctors and that is why BW are turning a blind eye.
  5. BW used to run a skip boat (Hopper) down here, starting in Oxford every now and again, it was very usefull, we have been thinking of asking them if they will run one again soon. By the way Did you know Andy (Belinda) moored between the Boat and Jolly Boatman?
  6. There is a problem here with boats just mooring up on visitor moorings, that look like they have no intention of leaving. This is such a busy time of the year and people that want to moor up to use one of the Three Pubs in the area cant find anywhere. BW have asked/ told them to move but have said they wont go. This boat has been there for months And this one is set up as if they have no intention of moving back to their mooring about 4 miles away
  7. We went to the Rally yesterday. The notice for the parking fees of £10 per car said, Profit from the fees will go to "Canal causes" I was wondering what these causes were likely to be?
  8. I was chatting to a farmer at the weekend. He said that, what was going to happen to them regarding diesel (and they get through stacks of it) was, they will have to pay full whack and then claim back the subsidy but also have to declare when they have had to use the tractor, combine etc on the road, as that bit is not subsidised. He is not happy about it, as it will create more work.
  9. Coal boats that sell diesel surely wont have the buying power that the forecourts have, so I would have thought it will be more expensive off of the coal boat. Something I don't understand, around 10 years ago, one of my neighbours, that has very big diesel tanks on his boat, used to get fuel delivered by tanker a couple of times a year, untill one year a driver of the tanker said to him, "sorry mate I can't pour it into your tank, If any gets into the water I am in DEEP ****" So that was the end of that cheap supply. but how come its OK for me or a coal boat to pour diesel into my boat tank with apparantly no problem? Wendy
  10. Brilliant news Carl Wendy
  11. Hello Catherine is on Radio 4 today on a programme called "Last Words" at 4pm repeated on Sunday at 8. 30pm. Rose will be on it as well but aparantly they had to cut alot of Rose out as they could not understand her accent etc but said they will store the "at length" interview with Rose, in the BBC archives.
  12. yes I had a look at it earlier.
  13. Still looking. I found out it is for sale at Reading Marina, and would you believe it, the only pictures of it in the add were of the inside
  14. About 12 years ago, we got a big order for 16 panels for Oxford area, from Butts we got a 30% discount so my 75watt panels came out at around £270 each. I bought 2 then and already had 2 x 70 watt panels, I think the deal still exists, the Pete Nash deal of 30% discount. anyway about 5 years ago, my engine packed up, it was Christmas time. I lasted right through to the spring with only the solar panels and regulator for my power. even I was quite amazed, had to put the colour tv away and get out the black and white and made sure I did not have lights on when not needed, (I don't anyway) used a portable radio, probably the most power thirsty thing I used was the pumps. So your right Ernie, as I proved myself, mind you some people have them fitted flat on the roof. This is only any good here in the uk during the middle of the summer, mine are always angled towards the sun and during the winter they are angled quite high, to get as much sun onto them as possible. Pete was trying to design a frame that would move to follow the sun during the day etc but don't think he ever got round to it. I am seriously thinking of adding more panels especially with diesel prices as they are now but as Chris says With all my power thirsty things I have on my boat now, I would probably have to cover half the roof with them (expensive) Some people can get a grant for them up to about £2500 for a house installation, so may be possible for a boat.
  15. Catherine is going to be on Radio Oxford tomorrow morning at around 8. 50am talking about Jack Skinner. She said it was ironic all the attention he is getting, now that he is dead.
  16. In he actual newspaper, there is a big picture of Jack, Rose, Joe and Rose Spooky indeed
  17. What do you think about this? http://www.drivewithwaterfuel.com/?hop=t0daysale
  18. Jacks obituary is in the Guardian today page 31 I think Catherine presented it really well http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2008/jun/16/
  19. Thats what I thought The quote comes from the stoppage lists that get sent out daily Wendy
  20. Sunday 25 May 2008 - Tuesday 27 May 2008 Update: 27.05.08 Further to our stoppage notice issued on 25 May, works have now been completed to remove the fallen tree at Bridge 84, Ellel Grange Bridge on the Lancaster Canal. The canal & towpath have now been re-opened. British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience caused. Is this the tree you were on about?
  21. Managed to get some from coal boat in Blisworth, 79p lt very gratefull to them as I was really short. I do wonder if by the time November comes, if the red diesel will be any cheper than road diesel, the way the price are creeping up. Wendy
  22. 89p a lt !!!!!!!!!!!!! Managed to get some spent veg oil from a local pub yesterday. A friend of ours uses a mix of 80% spent veg oil in his Lister engine. hes been using it for over a year, he filteres it down to 5 microns, has pre filters etc. he advised me to strain the oil through a pair of good denim jeaan leg, with a jubilee clip at the bottom then filter it again to the 5 microns but only to start with a 25% veg oil mix for my Perkins
  23. I don't think you could compile a list for the south Oxford canal area, as I don't think there are any anymore, except for Summertown, (if its still there) The others have all closed down
  24. Does anyone know what the cheapest diesel is around the Oxford Area ish, that we could get some from, Tomorrow or Monday (By car, so Grand Union OK as far as distance goes. Thankyou, Wendy By the way I have some old diesel, (roughly 5 years old) do you know if it would still be alright to use?
