  1. Just phoned a local supplier. To buy 400L its 0.67.5 problem is they wont deliver to boats any more they are worried about spillage but you can drive up there and fill containers at 70p a litre. I'm now wondering how much I would save on £90 worth if I bought it at 70p (havn't got my maths head on)
  2. 82p a litre from Dusty South Oxford today
  3. Hi Chris, If anything I have been using less power as have been out and about, at weekends anyway, and now I turn off the inverter when not using it. I just fired engine up cos the solar regulator said 11.6/7 as soon as I put the wires on the altternator, the current meter shot up to 75amps and the solar meter read UBAT 14.0v at 70% now, what 5 min later its reading 13.7v and 90%. Does this mean anything to you? Wendy
  4. I was always led to believe it was 3ft, just incase gas went up or fire spreading from boat to boat, although most of our boats on mooring are now bumper to bumper.
  5. Can't believe I am having the same old problem again. Had the 3 batteries drop tested before adding another one to the bank, all worked perfectly untill recently and now I'm back to the same old running engine for hours and hours again. the cable Amp meter is reading 50 - 75 when I fire up the engine, my solar pannel control unit reads at first 14.1 then a minute later 13.9 and then 13.8. Turned the engine off at 8pm last night after running engine for 8 hours and at 8. 30am the batteries are flat as pancakes again. Greedy telly on for 5 hours laptop on longer, fridge, + 1 D light for a short time Any ideas please Don't forget I have 4 solar panels, 2X 70 watt and 2X 75 watt, they would of been putting in a bit even in the bad weather.
  6. It was so nice to have a boat come past our moorings slowly last Friday. It is so rare and this year for some reason seems to be worse than ever for speeding boats. I wonder if it is because there are more marinas, where these people don't experience what its like to have boats speed past them. The worst round here are definitely BW work boats, had one scrape the whole length of my boat last week Anyway thanks again to The Henry George
  7. Housing Benefit will pay mooring and licence fees BUT the catch is,........ you have to have a mooring to get it.
  8. What the boating families used to use in the old days was.......................Ashes out the fire, it works and then if you don't want to be bothered with doing it regularly, smear Vaseline over it. I think a lacquer would possibly crack in hot sunny weather.
  9. You can't just go around accusing people because they look a bit dodgy, unless someone actually saw them doing it (you said there was no one around all the time you were out) do you have a CCT camera on the go when your not there? Our moorings are a mess at times, including my own, I'm not well off, look a bit different but no way would I nick anyones diesel. It could make people really paranoid to moor up next to a loan boat anywhere in case they are accused of something they have not done
  10. Hello Pete, on line piled mooring on Canal, It is on the waterline and below, when the boat was in the water, you could see lots of bright orange splodges just below the waterline. Wendy
  11. Hi Albi, The boat is 62ft. It did have anodes fitted either 6 or more than likely 10 years ago, they have worn down to just the metal strip, how long ago they wore out god knows, No just a BT line Wendy
  12. One of my neighbours has just taken his boat to boatyard, they pressure washed it, then said it was badly pitted both sides below the water line but didn't think it needed over plating, mainly because of the age of the boat. He has been in touch with a surveyor on the phone, he said, he didn't think there would be any need for a survey, again because of the age. Now his boat has been sat on the mooring for 10 years only moving about 3 times (to turn round) and once 6 years ago to get boat out of the water. Is it right that the electrolisis his hull has suffered has nothing to do with the 7KVA generator he runs from the land (in a shed) daily and 2000watt inverter? I was always led to believe that this would effect the hull also the fact of it being constantly static would not help. The surveyor did say that he would go and have a look at it today and see if he thought it needed a survey doing. This thing about the boat not needing a survey because it is only 10 years old and the fact it is 10/6/4 I find a bit strange. In the past a surveyor told me of a boat needed replating when it was only just over a year old.

  17. A friend of mine from Springfield, did the trip first time with SPCC, the next time he was heading into Limehouse in his Dutch Barge, he hit the wall and his friend went plop into the river. Scarey stuff
  18. About 10 - 15 years ago, maybe longer, Magic Roundabout used to be the warden boat for Thrupp Canal Cruising Club, Tel 01865 379285. I believe it was then sold to Steve (with one leg) who lived on it, there was a fire on it, one Christmas but they still lived on it eventually sold it while they were in Wolvercote. I'm pretty sure they changed the name of it as well.

  22. Some people on our moorings have been lighting their fires on a regular basis in the last week or so and have seemed to give up on the fact, that we are ever going to get a summer this year. I havn't lit mine yet and have never lit my fire in July in the past, although I was tempted to do so yesterday. Anyone out there had their fires on this month?

  24. Meet the seller Seller: richardc1161( 421) Feedback: 100 % Positive Member: since 17-Apr-05 in United Kingdom ( I was recomended this site on Ebay for filters ) Are you fed up with the increasing cost of diesel? Then make your own fuel out of used vegetable oil! This listing is for a 25 micron filter – I am recommending that these 25 micron filters be used as part of the filtering process ie before my 10 micron and before my 5 micron filters. *******Please see my other listings for 5 and 10 micron filters********* ***NEW! 1 micron filters now available*** PLEASE NOTE! Most diesel engine systems have a fuel filter that cleans down to 10 micron. Filtering down to 5 microns means that you will already have 'cleaned' the Waste Vegetable Oil of any harmful particles before putting it in your tank. Pouring the oil through one of my 25 and 10 micron filters will extend the life of the important 5 micron filter. Most takeaways are just chucking their used vegetable oil out, so why not help the environment and your wallet by pouring it through one of these 5 micron filters and then straight into your tank! I have a Discovery and an old Range Rover classic, both with the 200 tdi engine, and both are running on a 70/30 (Veg Oil to diesel) in the summer; a 50/50 mix in the winter. On long runs this ratio goes up to 90/10! In response to the many questions I’ve received…………its as simple as this: Get an old oil drum and cut a 7" circular hole in the top of the lid. I have also fitted a rotary hand pump in mine. Make sure the drum is clean and free from metal off-cuts before using it and ensure that you file off any rough edges on the hole to protect your filter (once you have a ‘used’ filter, you can trim the material away and use its plastic rim as a ‘liner’ Insert the filter sock (the rigid plastic rim will hold the sock in place). To increase the life of your 5 micron filters, first pour your oil through a fine metal sieve to get the lumpy bits out! Put the WVO back into the container and give it a week to ten days to settle; you will see a ‘cloud’ forming at the bottom. I have previously used j-clothes and old pillow cases placed in a metal strainer for the next phase, but found these to be painfully slow compared to a 25 micron filter sock. So, now carefully pour the clear oil through a 25 micron filter sock, leaving the cloudy stuff in the bottom of the container. If you put in a search on ebay for ‘siphon pump’, you will find very cheap (0.99p plus post) hand operated pumps for cleaning fish tanks, wine making etc. I have found this to be a slow (6.5 litres per minute) but sure method of removing the clean oil. At the risk of turning this into a blog, many of you have also requested 10 micron filters. It sounded logical, but I wanted to try it myself before selling them. Sure enough, their use DOES improve the life of the 5 micron filters so I have now incorporated one into my system. I have also been asked for 1 micron filters! To be honest, I won't be using them myself because I drive a tractor disguised as a car, however I now have these in stock. So, once through the 25 and 10 micron filters, my oil then goes through a 5 micron filter suspended in the lid of a 200 litre drum where it is stored ready for use. I am frequently asked “how long will my filter last?”. The answer depends entirely on the quality of the oil you are getting, whether you sieve it first, how long you settle it for, how carefully you pour/siphon it off and whether you filter it through your old jeans/ a 25 and 10 micron filter etc before it goes through the final 5 micron filter!! If you are running out of old jeans and/or getting grief from a family who are fed up with you taking all their pillow cases then please see my other listing for 10 and 5 micron filters! Please note: These are high quality HEAT SEALED filter socks, unlike some out there which are stitched........please do be wary of using these inferior quality filters as the oil just pours through the stitching holes making your 5 micron filter a little bit pointless!! These filters are 16" (40cm) long and have a diameter of 7" (18 cm). Longer (32") filters are out there on the market, but I don't like them because the take up half the depth of the storage barrel. A note of warning, please ensure that your vehicle has a Bosch and NOT a Lucas fuel pump. Research on WVO/SVO use shows that the Lucas pumps do not run well on Veg Oil - I would rather that I lost a customer than you lost your fuel pump! Full details of your threshold limits for paying duty on your oil can be found on this link: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/excise-duty/brief4307.htm In simple terms, at 20 mpg you can cover 11,000 miles per year, 25mpg / 14,000 miles per year, 30mpg / 16,500 miles per year, 40mpg / 22,000 miles per year, 50mpg / 27,500 miles per year. The above figures are rounded off, but give you some idea of much oil you will need to use before worrying about Customs and Excise. The boring bit: * I prefer PayPal and will accept cheques/postal orders for bulk purchases only. P&P costs are £1.57 for 1 x Filter, please add 43p for each additional filter required. Please note that you CAN combine postage on 25, 10 and 5 micron filters! * I will post these filters First Class and I always keep records of posting. * I'm sorry, but we do not offer local collection. * I will post abroad, but please contact me for P&P costs BEFORE bidding! * I will always endeavour to post items out to you within 2 days of payments clearing. Thank you for looking........happy filtering
