Basically Boatyard uses windows draft excluder on their mushrooms (along with screws) as the adhesive/sealant is incredibly hard to get off again if you need - they advised using it . Although I am considering adding a clear lfexible bathroom sealant to the edge as extra protection.

I have definately seen one like that, but it was a smart car not a mini. There was a the engine house then open deck on which the car would fit. I believe it either had hydraulics to lift the car to the level of the canal side and foldable ramp for the gap. The rest of the boat continued and looked quite traditional in all other respects. While travelling I even met a gentleman who was very proud that he had a bath tub on board.

Going to use neoprene strip to seal, as recommended by our local Boatyard we bought 2.5cm wide and 3mm thick.

If you get it open and it looks like ours did ... It can be saved (added a before and after pics). We had it cleaned and lined by these super helpful guys ... done in two days: http://watertankrelining.co.uk/wp/index.php/narrowboat-reline/ I should add that we opened it after shot blasting the bottom blew a hole in the tank bottom. Hull repaired by local Boatyard. Tank lined on our mooring, they had all the kit the needed...! Don't neglect your tank especially if its integral, lesson learned.
