  1. Yes, I will take in advice that I believe to be valuable and from a reliable source. Nobody knows everything about everything, so I always listen and then decide which nuggets of information are useful or relevant to my situation. I won't just automatically believe anything that is quoted on here. Thank you, yes and I would say as above.
  2. I enjoy some vlogs and others are quite annoying. Tales from the Swan's neck, Sort of interesting, Cruising the cut, are all nicely put together. I personally have a project boat so The Narrowboat that James built has been and will be useful. I won't mention the ones that annoy me, as my Dad used to say "if you haven't got anything nice to say about something, say nothing at all". As a newcomer to boating, I'm finding both this forum and youtube useful and I'm trying to absorb as much information as I can before I'm out on the cut.
  3. Thank you for your valid and valuable contributions everyone, I am taking it in.
  4. That is brilliant, thanks Mike. I'll at least be able to establish whether or not she needs to come out of the water before spring, thanks again.
  5. Hello knowledgeable people of canal world. I already own a boat so I don't see the point in paying a surveyor to tell me that I need some repairs to the hull, when I can put the money towards the repairs. I have access to the inside of the hull, as I will be refitting the boat out and my question is: do ultrasonic thickness measurement gauges work when there is water on the other side of the metal? In other words, can I survey the hull myself from the inside? Many thanks for your input in advance.
  6. Even his boat is called Ultrimax haha it's a bit cheeky
  7. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I'm impressed with the collective knowledge of the users on here. I was wondering about the requirement of a survey for insurance purposes for a boat that is over 30 years old, and how do you know how old a boat is? As I understand it, boats don't have a logbook in the same way that road vehicles do.
