  1. Really sorry. I'll try and cut and paste For sale… 58” cruiser stern narrowboat. An unfinished project. What is effectively a new shell, built by Nick Thorpe, and supplied at the beginning of 2018. Dry stored since delivery. She has all the nice refinements normally found on a NT boat, such as integral handrails, self-draining decks, twisted cabin handrail details, etc. Very well made boat with all of the external welding smoothed out for that superior finish. 2 coats of International Intertuff applied to the hull and grey primer to cabin. Ballasted with concrete commons and fitted with a full Acoyya/Medite support joists and floor boarding. Acoyya comes with 50 above ground/25 year in fresh water warranty - https://www.accoya.com/uk/ It is a fully sustainable (FSC & C2C Gold Certified) manufactured hardwood that is dimensionally stable, heavily mold resistance and inert to insects. Windows, supplied by Caldwells, are all double glassed, frames with thermal break and finished in Ultrachrome Powder coat. Glass is clear apart from the bathroom which is frosted. 2. Spotted this on Facebook. Sounds like a great project for someone to take forward:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/478807852472469/permalink/1168752570144657/?sale_post_id=1168752570144657
  3. Knowing how much you all enjoy debating different types of boating loo I thought I would share this. I was talking to a friend and telling her how tricky it is arranging to view boats when there is scant access to public conveniences on route due to lockdown. She told me about this product. It's basically a foldable porta-potti in a bag that uses some type of absorbing gel rather than liquid chemicals. Probably an expensive solution to a simple problem but anyway ...... it's at www.popaloo.co.uk.
  4. And that is what is so very wonderful about having a means of transport with your own private facilities! When I was first recovering we bought a secondhand motorhome off eBay so we could travel all over Europe with our (now grown-up) kids. It was just amazing and took away all the fear of being caught out away from a loo. I don't think there would be much of an advantage between the different types in my personal case; it's rather that I'm very used to emptying a cassette loo and haven't used a pump-out before. There is something cowardly comforting about familiar systems and I am determined to be able to manage and maintain as much as I can on the boat myself. Saying that I don't doubt that I would quickly master the pump-out system. Can't quite get my head around composting loos ATM but again that is probably down to my inexperience and ignorance.
  5. He's barely bright enough to walk in a straight line! He can be in a nutty ?
  6. Where can I buy it - one for me and one for the dog! ?
  7. Indeed. Was merely commenting on my limited experience of the the integrity of the builder. From my hours (read: days/weeks/months) of stalking the forum it seems that this is not always a given. Perhaps the low volume nature of boat production is a field in which skilled craftsmen can come to the fore?
  8. I couldn't agree more. Don't want to start another heated debate about the positives and negatives of such a boat but (and aesthetics aside) .... I can only dream of owning a boat from a builder that put in so much time and effort and attention to detail as Fernwood.
  9. Brilliant!! Hubby and I were just having the old cassette v pump-out discussion last night. He's pump-out and I'm cassette. As a bowel cancer survivor this is a subject that is close to my heart! ? #sharingtoomuchtoosoon
  10. I know she has attracted a lot of attention ? on this forum, not to mention the cut, over the years, so I thought you might be interested to hear that NB Whitefield is coming back on to the market at Midway boats. Price £125,000. Strangely she was my first introduction to narrowboats as I was commissioned to paint some marble effect panels for the bathroom. I never saw the finished product. This was a long time ago now and little did I know that one day I would be looking for a boat of my own. Think I'll be sticking to the tried and tested type though!
  11. Your secret is safe with me! ? Thank you for the advice. It has been so informative reading posts from you and your fellow forumites over the last year or so. For example we have really taken on board the fact that a first boat should be treated as a trial to learn what does and doesn't work for us, with a view to selling in a few years if necessary. Hopefully our wait to find our boat won't be too long.
  12. That's very interesting to know thank you. We are in Lincoln so I guess I need to look into how we might be restricted by a longer boat. It certainly opens up more of the market.
  13. Thank you and food for thought. I need to be more flexible re the wishlist methinks.
  14. A handsome boy and so sorry to hear you lost him. Gus has a life jacket and has similarly loved his time on friends' boats. We had a brief scary sinking issue when he was a pup - rather like the strange faces from Mordor in Lord of the Rings looking up through the water. Took him for a couple of organised pug swimming sessions in his life-jacket but he will never be a swimmer! Thank you Dr Bob and my husband shares your view. I'm worried about handling a longer boat on my own I think. Absolute agree about the lack of good boats. Think our wait may be a long one and I'll have to content myself with mere forum stalking until then. ?
  15. Thank you and yes that does sound very sensible.
  16. Hello all. After years of dreaming my hubby and I are joining the long queue of people wanting to become narrowboaters. We will be keeping a look-out for a sub 60ft boat and plan to keep it near our house in Lincoln (initially at least). Leisure use only (2 + a pug); although Covid has meant hubby can work from home more so we anticipate spending quite a lot of time on the water. It would be ideal if we've got space for occasional guests. We've never owned a boat and are very excited. This forum has been so useful for learning more about what lies ahead.
