  1. Heya, moving onto our boat soon with our boy Bowser. Any advice for pups on the cut? EDIT: jesus is there a way to edit image size on here?
  2. That's one good looking danger noodle
  3. Does this look like a decent tv to get? Do you guys see any glaring issues? I think it may come with a regulator in the cigar charger. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/TVs-Televisions/24-Cello-12-volt-C24230F/B00MR2FR3Y/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1549706692&sr=8-4&keywords=12v+television
  4. Our boat does not have a mains line, we are also continuous cruisers for the foreseeable future. Eventually a mains line will be added in but not for a while. Sorry I really should have specified that earlier.
  5. Hi there! I read a lot on here that it is a decent idea to go 12v with as much as possible when possible. I'm wondering if this extends to TVs as well. I see 12v tv sets out there, is this a good idea to get for my boat or should I be sticking with 240v here. Cheers!
  6. Thanks for the info man, very helpful!
  7. Sorry I wasn't meaning to sound bitter, just dont have the info yet. Will post it here as soon as I find out more. Thanks, reading through this now.
  8. I feel like i've poked a bee hive here. I just wanted some hot water. I'll get someone to make sure everything is legal before I agree to anything. This is just early days. ? Thanks mate I'll check that info on the weekend and post it here.
  9. Fair play, assuming that I get all this done though. Does anyone know how much it costs to repair a diesel heater?
  10. Interesting, i'll ask about that. If they are planning to rent the boat out then they should have the license and the insurance updated.
  11. Not quite sure what you mean sorry, they have been living on the boat, but now need to move onto dry land for a new project. so they want to rent/sell the boat. We want to rent it for a bit first to see what issues it has.
  12. - Kennet and Avon - Safety Cert till 2021 - As for liability, they told us about the diesel heater when we first viewed it, they said that we were more than welcome to have a look at if we want, and we decided we were keen to rent the boat regardless - I'll ask about co2 alarms, smoke detectors and gas certificates when I see them next - Not sure about insurance - Not sure about licence, but they have been cruising on this boat themselves legally for over a year now, so i assume licensed? I was thinking of fixing the heater, just because i want hot water and it didn't look like they were gonna do it. Cheers for the info, i spent some time trying to search for a similar thread before making this but could only find threads about buying a new one. I'll have a scroll through here manually, because i'm having some issues finding relevant content using the search functionality
  13. Hello! My girlfriend and I are going to be renting a boat starting Febuary, with the intention to buy in the future if we enjoy it. The boat itself looks in decent condition but one point that the owner has told us is that they have a diesel heater, which is connected to a calorifier which is used to supply hot water to the taps (and maybe radiators?). They heat up their own water for baths etc, so they have said a while back it stopped working and if we wanted to look into it then we were welcome. I imagine i'm going to want hot water, so was hoping to get some advice regarding diesel heaters. Are there any common issues you have run into that would cause it to stop working? Any ballpark ideas how much it may cost to get someone in to look at repairing this one? How much would to cost for a new one? Cheers in advance for any advice you can give at all, otherwise thanks anyway for reading.
  14. Yup, we have had no end of trouble getting access. Currently it's parking up along the a4 and walking over. It's not bad unless you need to carry materials and stuff, that's one reason I go there so often. I try to lend a hand where possible.
  15. Thanks for all the feedback, i will have a chat with C&RT and report back, i'll also check the deed. Much obliged!
  16. I'm not sure on the difference between EoG and residential, just hoping to make some use of the land for dad.
  17. Yup we're doing it up and living there (well i visit every weekend anyway), dad lives there full time and is slowly working on it, there is a LOT to fix. I don't know who owned it previously, but it was in a hell of a state when dad managed to score it. I'll take a look thanks!
  18. Hrm... I wonder why. They just say no huh.
  19. Hi again! My dad owns a little lock keepers cottage called Cobblers Lock along the kennet and avon canal (just outside hungerford). He owns the house and the land alongside the canal which stretches a good 50m or so away from the lock. I am wondering if it is possible to somehow get permission for a mooring on there. Has anyone had any experience or have some advice for this? Cheers in advance for any help! Also a side note, if you ever see us sitting on the table drinking a cold one out the front, do shout out and come say hello, we love sharing a glass or two with the boaters who cruise past and would be happy to meet more of you.
  20. Ouch, just finished talking to pegasus finance (apparently they are the people to talk to about boats). I am going to need 3 years living and working history in the UK before I can apply for a loan. Currently 1/3 of the way there. Guess i'm gonna just perv on boats online for 2 more years, that gives me time to research I suppose. BUMMER!
  21. Oops sorry I mean't brit bucks, I've spen't too long in Australia and forgotten the currencies hah.
  22. Fair point, though with my current work situation the marina costs are still fairly cheap compared to my current rent situation, even in bristol area. $4000 a year works out to not very much per month.
  23. Excellent! Well they are charging £78.80 per ft. It has parking and is within riding distance on my motorcycle into bristol. It appears that I might be able to get a spot if I keep an eye out and call every few weeks. Until then I could cruise around and bring my bike behind. It sounds doable... Though I feel like I must be missing something as this has been a rollercoaster so far haha.
  24. They say it is a liveaboard contract, it acts as a full residential i believe, you get mail etc. They do have leisure mooring but they expect you to take the boat out for cruises etc and it's cheaper. Is it bad to have a residential?
  25. That is quite interesting, though I think i'd feel a bit too guilty to abuse that. I have just got off the phone with a lovely lady from saltford marina. She says they have a turnover of narrowboats throughout the year and the prices aren't horrible, £3152 for a 40ft narrowboat for the year. She said that if I do some CC'ing for a while and check in every 3 weeks she believes I should not have too much trouble. There are also marinas in bath and portavon. Does this feel correct to you all?
