  1. I doubt it, we just take it by car if we want to moor in the middle of nowhere. The person who came to mind was opposite the services for 3 months anyway (although the Elsan was notoriously blocked a lot of the time).
  2. I've spoken to a couple of people who have proudly claimed to have spent ~3 months in one spot. In one case, opposite a water point (he was gloating at the fact that it was so convenient). So far, only seen this attitude on the K&A. In other cases, CaRT allow continuous moorers due to circumstances. In one case a person had been, right next to but not blocking, the water point for years. This was allowed because they were/are an alcoholic slowly killing themselves (not sure if they're still alive, saw an ambulance visit them before moving on). In both cases, there is an attitude that this is acceptable. In the first case people with no real reason to continuously moor have no shame about it, and it's hard to convince them otherwise because so many others think it's perfectly fine. In the second case, acceptance that the canals are an appropriate place for people with serious mental and physical health issues, because they're "cheaper". I would like to see CaRT issue some strong communication to try and change people's minds for the first case. The second one is harder to address.

  13. I like how the comments section suggests that the perpetrator wasn't actually in the business of selling ice cream.
  14. Are you going to "control" pigeon numbers legally? Do you have a license etc. ? Please read the following if not (I don't know what you know): https://www.birdspikesonline.co.uk/Blog/The-laws-that-affect-pigeons-seagulls-and-you In terms of being a "pain", maybe rethink what impact they are having on your life and surroundings. Pigeons are an important species for the environment, and they are predated on by larger predatory birds. If you want to dissuade pigeons from going in particular places, there are humane methods. We used shiny metallic strips to dissuade them in Rotterdam, which were effective.

  16. I think it was a fair point. There's a difference between asking questions and wiring things up. As an aside, it was the negative touching the copper pipe.
  17. I don't think there is much point engaging. From prior posts PD seems to have a serious dislike of YouTube bloggers (perhaps with a few exceptions). To the extent that they have been blocked from commenting on their videos (or their comments have been deleted, I forget which).
  18. Thanks for the candour, point taken. I won't be doing anything else with the electrics (the corrosion question was out of curiosity). But if you or anyone else can recommend books etc. to get to a place where it would be safe to make small changes, e.g., light fittings (or advise that I would really need a qualification) then that'd be appreciated.
  19. It's because people are encouraging them. People think presenting is easy, but it's not. Then again, the thousands of viewers for some of these channels suggest I am wrong. Even when they are just speaking in a monotonous voice at the camera for thirty minutes (not an exaggeration) about how some other boater annoyed them or told them off.
  20. Also, stupid question, but do the sacrificial anodes protect when running the negative back through the hull? I have no reason to do it though.
  21. Excellent, thank you. I didn't, but it was tempting. We pump out the cabin bilge every now and then, whilst we hunt down the ever-evasive source of water.

  23. I think we know (or can guess at) the answer. It's the type of work they do, and probably cultural life as well. Amongst the need for housing, what gets lost is that there are plenty of cities that have the types of work and to some extent culture that many Londoners desire. It doesn't make sense to address housing in London when there are other solutions involving other cities (being made more desirable). We need a mixed approach.
  24. Using a relative definition or not, the level of poverty associated with slums (according to wikipedia etc.) is "very poor". I don't think a very poor person could afford the average London boat (granted, some aren't "owned" but rather found abandoned and done-up, and some are floating sheds). That is, whether "very poor" is relative to London or the UK as a whole.
