  1. When cruising the French waterways what are the minimum qualifications (if any) required as a non resident of Europe? ( I am on a New Zealand passport.) And how are they best obtained? Thanking you for your imput. JM
  2. Thanks Tony, I have checked out Comma HD30 and it sounds as if it fits the bill and is available at www.partsjunction.co.uk for 10.89 per 4.5l. My boat is in France and I find it very hard to get anything over there very easily being away from the coast. I have found www.tb-training.co.uk very helpful with many aspects of my boating. Thanks again. J To all that have posted on this thread many thanks for your helpful info. Regards J
  3. I have a DAF 575 diesel motor in my boat and the oil the engine maker reccommends is Shell Gardinia 30. This is an SAE 30 motor oil . Can anyone tell me where I might source 30+ litres near London? If not what is a suitable substitute for this 30 year old non turbo diesel engine. Thanks
  4. Very interesting to hear of this new development that sounds very affordable without tying you into a long term contract . As my boat is in France I ask the question is there a similar product available over there? Thanks.
  5. Thanks again K. As they say a photo is worth 1000 words. I will now work out a suitable config for our boat. I will check on the web to find suitable packages bearing in mind they are to fit the european situation. I will certainly take care to follow oven install instructions along with the BSS regulations. Trust you have a good boating season. JM
  6. Thanks for that info. I will reconfigure the existing vent that airates for the present hob to the bottom of the new sealed compartment for the oven. When fitting a Bubble tester in the gas bund have you any hints to make it user friendly? At present the (French) gas bottle has a regulater and gauge fitted then a flexible hose up to the permanent gas line? Thanks.........I really appreciate reading the really practical hints on the forums. JM
  7. Thanks for that. With reference to the BSS then, how do you make the installation safest.
  8. I am about to fit a SpinFlo Triplex LPG gas hob and oven in a Kruiser. It is required that a vent to the outside be placed at the lowest point of the Oven cubicle. This is about 150mm above the waterline. How do I do this and stop water entering. Thanks.
  9. Hi, I have a 24v system for my engine starting only using 2x110 ah 12v batteries in series. I have installed 2 x 10watt solar panels connected in series running thru a Stecca 12-24v controller. This should produce enough current to keep the battery topped up over winter with a margin extra and the stecca will not let it over charge. I have another 40watt panel charging my domestic batteries via another stecca controller , 2 x 230amp hr deep cycle. We have used better end panels brought over to France from New Zealand. When I am on the boat I connect all 3 panels in parallel (60 watts) to boost domestic batteries which should provide enough to power my Engel fridge if I moor for a few days.
  10. I want to buy and install solar panels to keep charged my Starting 24 volt system(2 x12v x 100 amphour batteries), and Domestic 12 volt system (2 x 12v x 230 amphour) . My boat is moored in France for long periods over the winter. What wattage rwould I require and how do I get over the 24v problem. Look forward to your ideas. Cheers, Johnymac
