  1. Filled up with water etc, then went to moor up on the pontoons - another boat slipped in just before me, so i went to reverse into the space next to it. Except there was an issue. It's not wide enough by an inch or two, with fenders up on both sides of both boats. In the end, i went in front of him, and used stern and centre lines to moor,as the pontoon is not long enough for bow lines - mooring rings? no just bits of rope tied to the pontoon to tie your ropes to! Well done CRT!
  2. Advice please - I seem to have trouble landing well to moor up or prep/close a lock. I can come in nice and straight, be about 6 inches away from the edge then all of a sudden the bow is on the other side, and the stern is a few feet away. i slow to tickover, come in to the bank, i'm nice and straight, slot it into reverse to slow/stop for a few seconds, then into neutral, and sometimes a small blast of forwards with appropriate tiller direction. I then move the stern to the bank, and use the ropes to haul the bow in. What am i doing wrong?
  3. The bit that failed - the pipe was also slightly blocked which probably didnt help things!

  11. recently been painted so no, not at this time. I'll get a bilge pump which has the advantage of leaving me with a spare if needed.
  12. Due to pick up my first nb in a couple of weeks - cant wait ? however the water in the bow tank is old and has a scummy film on top, so will need emptying. Whats the best way? empty via sink? fill with fresh till overflowing to remove scum then empty via sink? or another way?
  13. I should be getting my first nb in a couple of weeks all going well, and have started to think about what i need aboard. Apart from the basic chains/pins hammer etc what else is considered essential?

  20. Any recommendations for good comfy chairs that dont cost the earth! seen them range from £150 to £1500 - are they really 10 times better?
  21. Looking into doing one of these - who's recommended (not too fussed whereabouts)
  22. I can only comment on the experience i had, and what i was told at the council offices - they told me in near enough the following words (it was a few years ago now) that because i was british, male, not pregnant, paid all my taxes, and not foreign, i was at the bottom of the list - so would never be able to help, however if i was a female pregnant immigrant, i would be in a house with benefits within hours. Age was not mentioned - whether this would have made a difference i do not know. They did however give me details of a local homeless charity - so i popped down to them and all they could do for me (for same reasons as above) was give me a piece of paper with some websites on to find housing. These consisted of rightmove, primelocation, zoopla etc. not much help. All i was eligible for was less than £10 a day unemployment. So whilst it was snowing and minus temperatures, i lived in the car.
  23. old woman probably, old man, less so. foreigners, women and children first, british males last!
  24. When i lost my home a couple of years ago, the council pretty much told me because i wasn't foreign, pregnant, or with children, they would pretty much never be able to help me. Lived in the car for a few weeks in January/February. So you only get help if youre in a certain group, others will just be left.
  25. A 1984 landrover - cold, noisy, draghty, uncomfortable, likes a drink, unreliable, but i love it
