  1. Went to zip up the cratch just now,and the zip literally fell apart! Is it possible to replace just the zip, or does the whole zip strip need replacing?
  2. I have a Reeves Hull with a deep well deck - it has a foot square of the floor in one of the lockers which has been dropped a couple of inches in which a bilge pump sits to remove any water - as far as i can tell, this is original and not a modification.
  3. I have a Bubble corner stove - and am wondering about the correct way to use it with regards to the vents. it has a vent on the door, one under the grate, and some thin slats above the door. how should i be using these vents with wood, or briquettes? thanks
  4. My tunnel light mount has failed, what is this part called do I can get a new one? Thanks
  5. when i get back, i'll be getting my jabs done, as a precaution, and keeping an eye on me, just in case.
  6. Hauled it via rope to a shallower section of bank, made a ramp using planks that had been dumped, but still unable to drag it out, with another boater pulling with me, so put a stake round the wire to hold it at the bank, gonna have to leave it sadly, going yo report it to crt
  7. After 5 hours in the water, i've got it off, covered in cuts and scratches now as well, all i need to do now is remove it from the water to prevent anyone else getting fouled up - a passing boater said 'just leave it, let it be someone else's problem', err, no, im getting it out - up a nearly meter high bank, one way or another!
  8. Garden shears as that's what was on the boat, a d I doubt a knife is going to get through a mattress! Gonna walk to a DIY shop and see what I can do
  9. Had to haul it half a mile just to Moor up, all I have is cheap garden pruning shears, won't touch the mattress fabric, let alone the wires, guess I'd better stump up a load of cash for rcr
  10. Called them up, lady is going to see if anyone can assist before Monday!
  11. On the Paddington arm, and got a mattress round the prop! Assistance will be greatly appreciated from anyone with anything to help get it off!
  12. Is there a map i can view with current closures on it due to water loss/breach/other?
  13. Well, its repacked, after a lot more faffing than should have been necessary. Whats wrong with simplicity these days? Simple works, requires no special tools, and no swearing!
  14. Repacking my stern gland, well, trying to! This is as far back as I can move the rings, do I have to take the python drive off?
  15. Looking through my average speeds for days spent travelling, the highest is 2.1mph and the lowest 1.1mph (excluding tardebigge days, where its more like 0.6mph) average about 1.8mph, speeding is not an issue - if i ever see breaking waves, i slow - normally the shallower canals. I suspect mentally - more noise, more go, though this is not the case, i just need to change that thought - and drop reves to a more suitable 11-1200 rpm, rather than the 16/1700 i currently sit on. (Beta 43)
  16. You have a vaild point - this month has been get the boat to home to sort a few things out, then go off to near Tardebigge to see some family before they move to Cornwall in a week or so, and then get back home to finalise sorting things out - now things will be a lot more slow - not so much travelling for 10 hours every day for 2 weeks, but a few hours here, spend a few days here, go on a bit and so forth. This first month has been an unusually busy one. And a hot one!
  17. The wonders of canalplan, and a spreadsheet log, to keep track of costs and travel - it lets me know the most locks in a day ive done is 43, 1.6 litres per hour fuel, and any other nerdy things i want to know haha! The previous owners only put on about 100 hours a year for the past 6/7 years (not using it was reason for sale), ive done about 220 in a month, so at least the boats actually getting used as a boat!
  18. Picked up my first nb a month ago today. So far, best decision i ever made, already done 304 miles, 418 locks, 16 tunnels and 11 lift/swing bridges, mostly solo. Looking at further plans for the rest of the year, and, making a list of maintenance items to be done. Somehow i feel this list will never shrink!
  19. Took me about 6 hours due to a gate on lock 51 not shutting, so had to wait for the CRT guys to walk up the flight to me - but otherwise, a nice morning, and a nice flight to do. I think you were the only other boat i saw too!
  20. Well i'll be tackling it in the morning, hopefully there'll be some lockies about!
  21. Going solo - probably another hour or two on top? so say 4-5hours sounds accurate?
  22. How long would you expect it to take from top to bottom?
  23. not all solo - about 18 of the locks prior to the Hatton i paired up with a lovely couple - but i still help with gates and paddles, unless they have a large crew
  24. 43 locks done today, including the Hatton flight solo. By 'eck those paddles need a lot of winding! I ache, and i doubt i will ever beat that personal best. Good day though!
  25. Seems it is not CRT, but Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) or Aylesbury Canal Society. So, CRT, i take back what i said, and now say well done AVDC/ACS!
