  1. Yes you make good points. We are fortunate that this is more of a community based scheme where the guy uses the local school once a week, maybe its more of a hobby than a business for him as he is in the 70s… but years of experience https://cabinteelyadulteducation.ie/project/marine-engine-maintenance/
  2. Probably not relevant to most but just in case there is someone from Ireland looking to know more about the marine engine there is a fantastic course run twice a year in Dublin. The guy that runs it has been doing it for 25 years and knows absolutely everything about Marine engines, it is it for 10 weeks and it’s €110 for the whole course fantastic value. Message me for details
  3. Hello all, I’d be grateful of some of your collective wisdom. i’ve had a small 23 foot boats in Ireland for many years which I have now sold but I have always had a dream to do the canals of Holland Belgium and France,. I have been looking at a number of boats which are reasonably priced in Holland but I am unsure about the cost of long-term marinas and I’m looking for some cost-effective options. Could anybody give me any indication of the typical costs per annum for a 10 meter cruiser (in Holland or Belgium) and if anyone has found any low costs gems hidden away, really appreciate it thanks guys Karl
  4. Thank you all for your responses and useful information. Maybe I used the term "houseboat" loosely, it is a 10m Dutch Steel River Cruiser. It is french registered but yes I am Irish resident. I do have a contact in France who is licensed and could run instructions before it is rented ... but by the sound of the comments it may not be worth it..... maybe the AirBnB option would be better. Thanks again and as a new member of Canal World i must say you are a very helpful and friendly lot.... happy to have you aboard anytime for a beer regards Karl
  5. Hi I have a houseboat in Burgundy in France that i purchased last year i am wondering about renting it out a few times during the high season, nothing major commercial, just a few times to cover the mooring. Does anyone have any experience of this in France? any insights would be most welcome Regards karl
