  1. We plan to fill up our deisel tank for the winter. WE have been told that all availble (to us)diesel has some biodiesel in it. We have also been told that it absorbs water and has a short shelf life. what do other folks think - do we just fill up and assume it's fine until we move off again after the winter
  2. I am at a loss to know why anyone would contemplate andAga an aga sounds smart but having one in the house and knowing how hot it is in the summer I wouldnt dream of having one on a boat unless I could turn it off in the hot weather (ie alternative cooking arrangements) I am also aware that they are seriously unecological. We have a gas stove and a boatmans stove which I use sometimes, but for ease of cooking I would stick to gas (or deisel) However its SUCH fun planning Good luck Best wishes Victoria on Blake
  3. Arent brothers great - this stemmed from me wishing him a binary happy new year which I do to all - o1-01-10. we are enconced on the Rochdal at Mytholmroyd hoping for a mooring and he waws concerned that the boat might need attention over the festive season - I LOVE beeing looked after by nice people, especially my husband and brother as they are much more mechanically minded than I. Also Henry was brilliant (nb Trinity) as I worked my way oop narth through Manchester. Dont be put off by talws of fearsome yoiuths - the most awful thing was 2 different anoraks round my prop in Manchester. Mooring at Portalnd basin is a delight and the Ashton fine except for a little concern about getting under the low bridge. As for the Rochdale - a canal that could do with more tlc but worththe effort of gliding through the most glorious Penine countryside. A Happy New Year and many thanks for advice Victoria on Blake
  4. Sunday 6th September 3-5pm free drinks and cakes St Michael's Church Hall Mytholmroyd (Rochdale Canal) Please come to support the "LInear Park " project which is endeavouring to make the towpath between Warland and Sowerby Bridge a nicer place for all towpath users. come and listen to the story so far and to add your comments We hope to welcome all users (including dog walkers) but I am the only boater and am fighting for not tarmac towpaths. If you can come and back me up
  5. thank yoiu all for replying to this.If there is anyone in the area who could come to an open meeting on 6th September at Mythomroyd (Rochdale Canal) 3-5pm and support the comments against tarmac. Victoria
  6. I am intrigued to hear the effusive comments. I would have said that they were a dead waste of a shilling, but then we are blessed with three stoves and a n engine puthering out heat on our 60ft trad. (Not that we need to used all of them at once). We will continue to used ours as perhaps we are just missing something (dont comment) have fun Victoria
  7. What do people think is the best all round towpath surface that will serve other towpath useres as walkers and cyclists
  8. I am excited that everyone is so positive. I am part of a group called the Calderdale Canal Connection and we want to improve the canal and towpath for all users. thanks for taking the time to reply. Blake is on her way to Mytholmroyd where we hope to eventually find a permanent mooring - any offers? victoria

  12. cassette any day - cheaper and I would rather use the space for storage not sewage. Actually I prefer a portapotti type -fewwer nooks and crannies to clean
  13. Tarmac seems to be the cheap tarmac surfacer - what do you think and what would you to choose if yoiu rules the world (or the cut)
  14. How do people think the Rochdale compares with other canals thanks forhte info Victoria
