  1. As for, Quote: No one reads the whole thread, I think you have to get the whole hog n not just jump in !!!!!
  2. Agreed, in my line of business, the last one who worked on it is responsible for prosecution where something fails, he/she has signed it off for the use it was provided for. We ask on this site for people who have the experience of living/working/leisure with these steel tubes in water, so they should be a competent person in what advice they are giving. That's what I thought this site was all about! Experience to pass down with Confidence that they know what they are saying is good advice.
  3. Any model recommendations? Ill stick with the high blood pressure,,,,
  4. So sorry to hear about your heath, long term I would go for webasco or eberspacher my eberspacher lasted me 5years but not known how long the previous user had it on board, it packed up during the winter while cruising on the River Lee an engineer who knew about Eberspachers and webasco (who was recommended from a marina) came out took it away told me the sad news that the jet burner had gone as I said earlier it cost me a £rand + a week to get it back, coming home was cold as that boat had no log burner but had 5 rads plus no hot water!! First thing in the morning it would be turn on all 4 hobs on the cooker to get warm and make a cup of tea, but the warmth only seemed to do from the knees upwards, I was grateful re-install it once posted back to me, it was nice to be home again. All the best to you on finding something that helps Forgot to mention that mine was feeding from the main tank where particles and or things were not making it work as well as it should, the tube feeding it is only 2mm dia, not much and no filter for the feed, engineer did recommend a separate tank for webasco and eberspacher. Good luck
  5. Eberspachers are ok but if they need to be fixed, Usually the jet burner fails, it usually means sending it away to be repaired about a week, that's another £rand and as Mike said about the diesel they prefer to be fed from a separate tank. They take approximately 1 litre per hour. What size is the boat?
  6. oh no Now I'm without hot water and hot food, bloody hell, time to get the tent out n go camping,,,,,,,,,,, Log Burner is out n all!!!!! So we all have it wrong!!!! We are not allowed these things cus there going to kill us!!!!! Last boats I had did have a fire alarm and Carbon monoxide alarm and any future projects are going to have the same.
  7. Hi all Its not only the finish that should be noted but how long does it last? Not only the workmanship involved in the interior but, the quality of and more important exterior. The quality of steel which is the correct grade for boat building, I know a person who works at a boat yard has reported that few people who have bought brand new and ten years 6 years later 10mm original plate has gone down to 7.5mm and the sides have suffered the same corrosion. How do you know that they are selling the quality that you expect to last? Thanks for looking Darren
  8. I had Eberspacher on the last boat and yes they are great small compact and use little diesel they are ideal on in my opinion 45/50 foot plus, but I don't want to go for one on this project because I want to keep cost as low as possible, I set myself a budget which is £2000.00 on a 30 foot refit. Eberspacher plus ++++ will blow the budget out of the water, excuse the pun
  9. Now, do I re-design my galley and put the waterheater in there? I do not want to use 240v or minimise where I go grrrr frustrating!!!! eeerrrrrmmmmmm???? Anyone!!!!
  10. Hi Allan I have just been reading that and was going to put it on my self, looks like the rules will change to every boat having room-sealed. They aint the cheapest out the lot, I have seen on caravan sites Morco F11EL for £400.00 but then its a lot more when you include flue pipe etc, but what cost can you put on life? Thanks to all but if there are any other makes that are room-sealed and cheaper let me know please I have about a month to decide on which way to go for water heater.
  11. Hi Richard I have a complete rebuild, so it will be a new water heater. So it needs to be a sealed waterheater?
  12. I agree, but don't forget to put the boat into Neutral before you hop off!!!!!
  13. Hi Alan That's why I was asking, there are a lot of liveaboards with water heaters but most are in the galley. Is it to do with the area size, steam from the water or the waterheater, fumes so on? Obviously flues do most of extracting fumes. Regards Darren
  14. Hi All, I would like to put a water heater in the bathroom/shower room, I would like it to supply hot water for the shower and sink also the kitchen sink, any recommendations an water heaters without costing loads and any regulations for safety cert to look out for? Thanks again Darren
  15. I Thank you all for the input on the subject, Scholar Gypsy for the photos, RD1 hope you sort it out & there are no problems! Richard T for his fast response and wingman WotEver. The best advice are from those who have experience. Do I push my luck, I would like to put a water heater in the bathroom/shower room, I would like it to supply hot water for the shower and sink also the kitchen sink, any recommendations an water heaters without the expense and any regs for safety cert to look out for? Thanks again Darren
  16. So anything that needs to be earthed can be connected to a bus bar, then to the hull, including the inverter?
  17. Hi All When it comes to 12volt instalment do I have to keep it away from the Mains supply of the boat including all cables? Or can they run along side of each other? I have ordered 2 books. The first being 12 volt bible. The second being Essential boat electrics. Can anyone recommend any other books? Regards Darren
  18. Hi again How much room would you recommend for all to be done including inverter, I'm looking at a 1ft wide gap and 2ft long and 3ft high as space needs to be minimal, I'm using a sterling 1800W inverter this will be located in-between a wall. Cheers people
  19. Thanks for reply WotEver, I find it hard to follow instructions but I think I can cope with that, I'm one of those people that if you told me I cant follow the instructions but if you shown me I remember and wont forget, same when driving take me to a place where I have never been,,, ill take you back to the same spot 10 years later. Thanks WotEver I'm sure Ill cope with that. funny thing is Ill start from the reverse
  20. Hi Everyone I know its been covered but,, I want to use the system of plug/s instead of switch to go from shoreline to inverter, I have had narrow boats before but I cant remember the simple old way, is it still legal under BSC? The layout from shoreline to RCB and inverter to RCB can anyone send photos? Obviously its a simple solution to keep them separate by plug system. Also I want to include a Galvanic Isolator into the plan, I know it is through the earth before the RCB. Will it work for both shoreline & inverter. Picture or a sematic plan would help more than word explanations. Thanks for looking at my post and I know its been covered before but I'm better with photos, I have drawn what I need Shoreline/RCB/Galvanic Isolator/inverter and a socket??? I know its late but I have been scratching my nut for day and ending up with something that would be live if a mistake happened,, Ouch Darren
