  1. I have found the company i bought it from last time so all is well. The price has gone up but its not too bad £39 from ASAP Supplies Ltd
  2. Hi i need to replace my r&d coupling after the last one was damaged due to missalignment(my fault) I know the prices can be very different from seller to seller.I remember searching the internet for a long time to buy the last one which i got prity cheap. The only problem is i cant remember where I got it from. Does anyone know where I can find them for a good price? cheers, riiggs
  3. Thanks for the guide stuart. i am fitting an ameter and shunt tomorrow and this will come in very handy
  4. ill be using about 40Ahrs per day so using that 30A charger how long do u think i would need to run the gen to keep the batts topped up?Im asuming its not as simple as 40Ahr/30A=1.3 or 1hrs20mins
  5. cheers chris,Ill be mostly moving around so i wont have shore power.will i still be able to use the batteies whilst im charging them with the black and decker? It seems like a good cheap option to me.If i do end up with shore power then i could maybe use a transformer to convert 240v to 12v or do without 12v altogether apart from the essentials like the bilge and water pumps ect.
  6. sounds good. How much electricty do you use each day and how long do you need to charge your batteries for? I must say i am reluctant to spend £300 on a charger but i will if i have to to be able to use say 40Ahrs a day and run the gen for 1 to 2 hours a day to charge the batts.
  7. Now I dont know what to think!!!! Gibbo do you think i should buy the cheaper victron charger rather than the sterling? Am I doing the right thing buying a multistage charger to run off my generator or not?I was hoping to only run the generator for an hour or two each day to charge my batteries.I have a 360Ah bank and ill probably use about 40-50Ahs per day maybe less.Would I be able to keep them fully charged with a 50A victron or sterling?
  8. Thanks chris The victron do sell a 50A charger but from what you have said the sterling seems like a better buy.I think the victron pheonix version will do the same job as the sterling with a builtin computer but it costs £400 so I think i will go for the sterling. Thank you all for your replies ill have to keep an eye on Midland Chandlers and see if i can get a good deal.
  9. From what i have seen the 12v power packs are only around 80%efficient but there maybe better ones.I use a small inverter to power my 90w laptop.I would recommend looking on ebay if you are going to get a 12v(19v)power pack because they are alot cheaper than the maplin ones.
  10. I am thinking about buying one of these 50A battery chargers to charge my 360Ah bank 3x120Ah and 1x50Ah starter battery.I will be using a makita G1700i generator(1.65kVA) to power it. I can buy the sterling 1250CED for £330 inc p+p or the Victron Centaur for £300 inc p+p.Which one of these do you think would be best or would you recemoned a differnt type? Also do you know if there is a cheaper place to buy these chargers? Thanks,Riiggs.
  11. so there is no getting round it then?ok thanks chris ill have to do the work.
  12. Im in the middle of fitting out my life boat to live in on the canals. It is a totally enclosed life boat used on an oil rig and designed to withstand fire with fire suppresion equipment on the roof(a kind of sprinkler)because of this there is no external fuel filling only an internal tank that you fill inside the boat. Will the boat need to have external fuel filling capaplitly to pass the BSS?Is it an absoulte requirement or is there any leaway?
  13. Excellent thats exactly what i needed to know thanks alot.

  17. Sorry slowcoach i dont remember seeing it,maybe it was sold by the time i bought the lifeboat. I have had no luck finding out what the original engines were,so i may have to just buy somthing suitable.I have already bought a volvo penta 17c engine(now up for sale) but it was slightly too big to fit in the the engine bay.The sump was about an inch to big and was stoping me from getting the engine low enough to line up with the prop shaft! Im now considering getting a bukh dv20 which is rated at 20hp,does anyone have any expirance with this engine?do you know if these engines are any good?would 20hp be enough for this boat?(Ill be cruising mostly on the cannals). Thanks, riiggs.
  18. Mike Im not sure how you could tell that is beverly beck but you are right, are you moored around there?Do i know you? The boat is about 30ft long and about 10ft wide and one day i hope to live on it. I payed £1300 for it but it dosent have an engine,so im trying to find out what engine(s) it originaly had.
  19. Thanks alot ill try getting in touch with them.
  20. Can anyone give me any info on my boat?I was told it came off an oil rig. What i reall need to know is what kind of engines it used it is a twin engine boat, but any info you can give me would be very helpfull.i.e:make, model number or contact details of anyone that might know or a usefull website. cheers. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=339788
  21. Thank u all for the info. Do you know how i can contact the sterling company directly? I wont be buying the clarke charger after your recommendations i am going to buy a sterling.Does anyone know if i can run the 50A sterling charger off my makita G1700i (1.65Kva) generator?
  22. Im considering buying a CLARKE BC520E 50A battery charger from machine mart(£180) to charge a bank of 5 85AH batteries(425AH tottal)Using my Makita G1700I inverter generator(1500w aprox).Has anyone used one of these chargers or does anyone know if they are any good?Im not sure if they are 2,3 or 4 stage chargers. Are there any other 50A chargers for around the same price that you would recomend?Or would i be better off getting a 70A charger? Please help im new to all this boating stuff. here is the link to the clarke charger: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...-2/brand/clarke

  24. Hello I am about to fit a volvo penta 17C with an ms 2:1 gearbox into one of my engine bays(I have two bays). The problem is I do not know which gear is which(forward or reverse).I dont want to be in reverse gear to go forward incase it wares the gear out. Does anyone have one of these engines and gearbox?I need to know if the fly wheel turns in the same direction as the forward gear or the reverse gear. Riiggs
  25. Thanks for the info.I am going to put the water tank inside the the boat above my head as there is alot of room.I will put it to one side of the boat and use some balast on the other side.my boat is an exlife boat and it did have large floation tanks in the roof untill i ripped them all out so i want to use the space and save needing to pump the water up to the taps all the time. It sounds like maybe its a bad idea to make my own tank using fibreglass. i have now found a tank that is like a poly bag and it can mould into the space i need,so i think my problem is solved.thanks again, riiggs
