Boat dwellers to be able to claim the £400 energy allowance.

The Doctor would need to see you to confirm that. -

All very valid points and loopholes . I can't see a solution. Perhaps if someone in your circumstances did pay council tax on the boat it would be easy. But you would probably then be out of pocket overall. -

The problem is identifying who is rightfully eligible to receive the payment . -

Regarding council tax Yes its a legitimate interest if there is evidence of tax evasion. Regarding application for grants Yes its a legitimate interest if there was evidence of a fraudulent application. (This could deter people making false declarations). -

There has to be a legitimate interest and not a reasonable reason which you stated earlier . You have misquoted the clause in your earlier post A legitimate interest doesn't mean they can share your details with anyone who has a reasonable reason -

What clause do you refer to please ? -

A continuous cruiser is a term referring to a boat with no declared home mooring . You can live in a house and be a continuous cruiser providing you move the boat every two weeks (providing areas with restricted mooring are avoided). In any case C&RT should not be revealing any personal data to any other party. -

In my mind anything that is perfectly legal can't be a scam . Nor is there any requirement for a continuous cruiser to not own a house or indeed several houses . Isn't there a law against that ? -

. In the case of a second house that is let to tenants it is usual for the tenants to pay the utility bill . So in that case the tenants will have received the subsidy. In the case of a second home that is not occupied the owner will indeed receive the subsidy for that second home. However the subsidy isn't means tested. I think this is your complaint. There is obviously a case for genuine boat dwellers to receive the subsidy. However it is very clear that this could be very easily open to abuse in the sense that thousands of claims could be made by anyone who owns a boat. It is even conceivable that people could fraudulently claim they own and live on a boat. If everyone was 100% honest there would be no issue. But unfortunately that is not the reality. -

When, if ever, is it expected energy costs to fall to reflect the current lower price of gas and oil? -

The NBTA are incorrect in that no one received the grant over 6 months ago. Would it not be better to find a UK government statement on the subject? -
Finding the smaller refills seems to be an issue so there is no reduced demand . In fact there is probably increased demand as holidaying and camping etc including boating is more popular than ever. I think Calor simply find it is inefficient to fill all the different small cylinders other than Campingaz which they are probably required to do under contract. :Looks like the production line for a Campingaz 907 is no good for filling a Calor cylinder (see video below). On the plus side if the only small Butane is Campingaz it could moderate the retail cost by simplifying production and delivery ,

Was there an explosion?
-
At the petrol station are you allowed to walk up with a loose cylinder and refill it? As opposed to your van which presumably has a fitted external fill point for the autogas.
-
There are kits to do this on ebay - they come with various end fittings depending on the cylinders involved The donor cylinder has to be raised above the cylinder to be filled . The danger is over filling . I haven't tried it myself yet Image below off youtube which seems to me highly dangerous. I would have thought its a job to do outdoors and well away from buildings.
-
I am sure the 907, which I use , is smaller. The downside of the 907 is the refill cost which is around £38 I am thinking of going with home refilling from a bigger cylinder.

I think it has to . Otherwise every boat becomes the source of a potential claim? -
There were folks on the sales pontoon at the marina today so the frosty weather isn't deterring everyone. The relatively few boats for sale suggests continuing popularity of boating despite increasing costs. I suspect holidaying abroad will become more expensive which in turn maintains demand of activities like caravanning, motorhomes and boats . The only concern I have for boating that relies on an engine is the future availability and cost of diesel.
-
Possibly. More likely they find the reality is not quite what they imagined it to be It would be no good if we all wanted the same thing.

I didn't -
Only two boats available at the brokerage here, one of which looks too optimistic. Although there are more for sale at the marina nearby I see no bargain prices. I sense a pause in sales but suspect it will be short lived . House sales I suspect also temporarily paused . Not sure why is called a cost of living crisis . Its just inflation which is something that has been very low the last few years . I expect a lot of people on here will recall past high inflation which we all survived. I would say money put into a boat the last few years has been a good investment as the value has almost certainly risen. Similarly with houses.

Not much use then We did go out at Boston once but the lock keeper had the vhf switched off on the return. We did get in but not impressed. If they did build the barrier there would be no tide to reach grand sluice . -

A friend went to Boston in the summer . C&RT were very restrictive about the time they would operate the lock at Grand Sluice . It had to be in ''office hours'' .The tides said ''sod that'' . He had to get out when the tide reached a level on the way up but C&RT would only operate the lock with the tide on the way down. That was too late to make it to Wells. Plus the sea state was crap but that's not C&RT's fault. I agree it (the barrier) will probably not happen which is shame really. Maybe in the next life.
