  1. Hi everyone, Can anyone recommend a good, well-designed ventilation fan for a bathroom that works both on solar and battery back up? Are solar fans powerful enough, do you think? Or would it be better to get a fan that connects to the 12v system? If so, any suggestions for this also? Thanks, everyone, for your advice. Alan
  2. Thanks so much everyone for your replies. Very helpful. I agree getting good quality acrylic and having thick enough is vital. We've found a very good company near us who sell Perspex.
  3. Hi , I would like to create a Perspex window or screen to fit into the side hatch of my boat. Does anyone know of a good resource or YouTube video or have advice on the best way to do this so that it is both easily removable and well sealed so that cold air and rain cannot get in. many thanks
  4. Thanks so much for everyone's great advice , think I'm going to sell that dehumidifier!
  5. Hi All, sorry for the typo meant to say dehumidifier not humidifier!
  6. Hi someone gave me a gift of a very good dehumidifier when I first bought my boat. I have never tried it because I was concerned about its electricity usage as I am a constant cruiser. It says its output is 180 Watts, would this be a very large draw on my batteries? And anyone else used a dehumidifier on their boat?
  7. It seems solar is good for summer use. I'll have to weigh up investment costs. Thanks all for your replies. Alan
  8. Hi everyone, we are preparing to spend our first winter as liveaboards and will be constant cruising. We have researched On Board Solar tilting panels and Photonic (FLPRO textured flexible panels). which one is better or are they equally effective? Thanks for your advice. Alan
  9. Thanks, Richard and Tim. Much appreciated. Alan
  10. Hi, we've moved down to Warwick and I'm still looking for a marine electrician to come and take a look at our boat. Can anyone recommend someone in this area? Many thanks, Alan
  11. Thanks everyone for your advice and information. I really appreciate this. Best wishes Alan
  12. Great advice. Funnily enough, I have been looking into solar panels but wonder whether spring would be a better time to have them installed. Thanks.
  13. Cheers. I will definitely call him.
  14. 4 batteries, about 1 year old and a small 12 volt fridge.
  15. Hi, this is my first year living on a narrowboat and I'm trying to understand our electrical system better. I'm concerned that perhaps my batteries are either not holding their charge, or they are not fully charging. I'm running them, often twice a day for one hour at 1000 for 30 mins, then down to 500 revs for the last 30 mins and yet I'm only able to run the very minimum of appliances on my 240 volt system before the my combi bleeps it's low battery warning. Appliances I am using are a couple of mobile phones and their extra batteries plus my laptop. I have a combi inverter which I only turn on to use the 240 volt appliances. I also have a 12 V fridge +12 V lighting on the boat which also uses up some of the batteries of course . Should I be running the engine for more than one hour morning and night? My domestic batteries Hannkook DC24MF. Thanks for advice. Alan
