  1. It was frozen on the Leigh arm of L&L along with parts of the Bridgewater last Friday/Saturday.
  2. After been on my boat single handed for a week, popped home for a night. MissMax doesnt have that option. Still concerned, as she may have slipped somewhere, I have this week, but I have good protective clothing, first aid skills, and I am well. I have had 2 Ice breaking days, so it may be a concern, to all..
  3. I came through lock 89 on Wednesday, I could not close the top offside/ tow path gate. It only went half way and stopped like there was a mechanical obstruction, reported to CRT. Lock 89 is at the bottom of this set of locks for those that do not know.
  4. Skye is a rescue dog, we have had her for 2.5 years, we are the longest people to have kept her. I always had GSD before, Skye is an American Bull Dog, no different she had no confidence when I got her, now she is confident. Any dog requires a pack leader, that is you. I pretty much know my dogs insecurities so I avoid certain situations, taught her 'on the boat' for example. Past couple of days I have really tested her, she has done well can't stay awake past 15:00 though Lordy lightweight, oh she wakes for food
  5. Some good replies there. Ours face was a picture the first time she set sail, she had been on the boat for all the viewings. Have done all manner through locks with her, she is good and has been good, she has jumped of the boat when my mrs went to the first lock in Manchester ( protective ) since then we have trained her. Yesterday she looked after the windlass, today we did the Rufford arm of L&L, its quiet. She did virtually all day off lead, doing different things, She was knackered by 14:30 and went to guard the fire! If I can work out how to send photos I will upload them
  6. +1 to Neil, I have had a good cruise so far, we are maintaining on the move, but a week away from reality Like I say I can come over and do an oil change, it's a 3 hourish round trip from Blackpool. you buy the parts. Happy to meet up with Neil, I had a first today, whilst dong the paddles on a lock, told my dog to stay, I went to the other side of the lock, did the paddles, she layed down, she stayed sat down or laying down through out the procedure, I am so happy.... On the boat, in the boat, waiting to disembark, embark, she has been excellent, she has done what was asked when was asked from first light till we battened Down the hatches, though they are to open cause this fire is ace! EDIT: I bought a data only sim pre loaded with 12gb valid for a year, if I remember it was £20. The reason for 3 was because of this forum IIRC. 3 hasnt as yet failed me on the cut, my mobile has consistently failed me.
  7. I will happily come over and do your oil and filter change, I am out for the week currently at bea tons bridge heading for Wigan pier and then back. So would have to be next week. However my dog loves cats and could eat hole ones, but couldn't leave her at home as I work away most of the time if you understand, but we could work around that. I have decided about my fridge btw, have it on when engine running off when it's not and will change in March. Best of a situation as far as I can see, changing batteries made a huge difference. Water analogy isn't correct, 110ah would be higher not bigger ! So now image a lake, above a pond, with out a lock, now how much water would flow? If water is on a level it will not flow. It would only flow if there is a gradient, hence locks and pump houses K&A for example, bad water flow/ depth. That's pretty much how I felt when I had to single hand to our new birth, isn't it a great feeling, coming up to the last lock into Wigan from Manchester, was like going through soup it was that shallow, CRT chap 'wow you made it through' Max, my dog fell in before we left the marina for the first time, got her out ok. First night in a canal side pub somebody told me these dogs can't swim and just sink. Obviously worried about this and no info on tinternet, I taught her to swim over the summer at Blackpool beach, felt like bit of a dick for listening to the doomonger in the fist place TBH when I saw she didn't sink, she is no springer spaniel, but she floats just about.... Skye quite happily stands on the ster ( blunt end ) n watching the world go by, she does get anxious when we single hand through locks etc, however when my Mrs is with me, she does bridges etc, the dog really seems to appease motorists at SB's this end of the canal they can be quite rude at times.
  8. Great thread, just finally caught up, we are also having problems with our fridge, though I think it is the thermostat and should be able to fix. Batteries have just been replaced, previous owner replaced 2 110ah batteries with 2 100ah batteries leaving a bank of 1x110ah plus two 100ah batteries. Which if I am correct would leave the 110ah attempting to charge the 100ah batteries. Central heating now being sorted, well next week. Some great advice on this thread, so a big thanks to MssMadMax, for starting it, and for forum members for their input. LED lights, as Max you have the long tubes, it may be worth buying a real of white 12v LED's such as this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122111108996you can cut the strip at selected intervals, fully waterproof and cheaper than buying individual bulbs, self adhesive, just a little bit of soldering to do. CPC do a 5 meter real for £20. From a consumption point of view you could also choose different amounts of LED's per meter, just to give you another option of course. I do realise from your previous posts you may not be the most technical person afloat, but in reality a simple job for the marina guys. You are doing excellent by the sounds of things, kept it up and the posts coming.. From another newcomer it really is a steep learning curve, but an enjoyable one at least, well sometimes anyway....
