  1. Thanks all read the BSS, pretty much says do as you please. But think ill comply with these ISO10239 and BS54823 fit a bubble tester then it should pass a BSS everytime. And as for british standards they was quite a pleasant read!! If i get time in the future might do the LPG changeover course but for now ill say the same as some of my customers say "was like that when I got here"
  2. As I mentioned I know the qualifications for LPG are different, But as most gas fitters will know I can go to any gas training centre do a 4 day course to add LPG for residential, leisure accommodation vehicles, boats, catering units and so on and so on for a couple of hundred quid and straight out fitting LPG, with no LPG experience sad but true. you say having a vent is not a good idea but surely a bulkhead fitting is not a vent as it'll be gas tight, Is that not a good idea in your opinion or is it no it cant be done like that because it contravenes ....reg regards
  3. Hi I am looking for a bit of advice regarding my gas installation, I am a natural gas gas safe fitter however i have next to no experience of LPG I have enquired about doing the changeover course to add lpg to my quals but for this one job i cant see the point. I borrowed the logic lpg manual of a friend and to be honest it mentions boats once or twice, so as for pipe sizing, tightness testing, purging, pressure drops ect ect im ok with that as theres not that much difference from natural. My query is the layout of my boat means the gas locker is on the rear deck steel narrowboat I want to install manual changeover in the locker then take the gas pipe down through the floor with a gas tight bulkhead fitting in to engine compartment where this pipe will go in one continuous run along the gun whale to the galley length 3 meters grommet through bulkhead between engine and cabin. this will then split in a kitchen cupboard to feed the oven(3.2kw) and hob (5.7 kw) do these need to be piped in rigid pipe like natural or are there flexible pipes available for lpg? I was planning on doing it in 10mm then I read that this pipe isn't suitable for boats so i will do it in 1/2 inch, what size ventilation do i need for a 2 berth boat i have 1 mushroom in the cabin and one in the bathroom. Thanks
  4. Hi Tony thanks for that i have a barrus 30hp engine in it the tanks probably about 6ft so its a little under but hopefully should be ok . Cheers Ade lots of useful info in Kevs Blog. With regards to ballast priced up engineering bricks today solids are expensive!! so probably going to put concrete flags in 3 tonnes worth was £400 reading how other have done it trimming afterwards is going to be near impossible for me because of the size i only have 16ft by 9ft of floor space so by the time i fill the floor and fit the boat out i'm not going to have much options for rejigging ballast and trimming it so am probably going to have to best guess it Should i RCD the boat or not? He's planning on keeping it for a while but who knows? should i get a surveyor for this or is there other options? I don't have the time or inclination to start reading loads of regs my head is already filled with electrical regs gas regs building regs from my day job. thanks dave
  5. I will ask the question regarding the dividers or ill look at some more of the build pictures to see, The Bow thruster was a bit of a luxury really the last boat he had was a 60 x 10 amber boat and for the last three years the bow thruster didn't work as it needed a new prop and it never bothered him, but as he's 73 now and getting no younger, if it makes his life easier and keeps him boating for years to come its money well spent in my book. and he should be able to turn on the spot. Were not keen on the paint job so we're currently taking it back down to bare metal and repainting it probably grey and blue.
  6. Hi first of all I would like to introduce myself My name is Dave long time lurker first time poster!! I am fitting out a rather unusual wide beam for my dad, he's had narrowboats and widebeams in the past. but for his new boat we have commissioned a 27ft wide beam to fit on a mooring he already has at a caravan, I will include some pictures of the build process So I would like to apologise now for the many questions I am going to be asking.!!! Please feel free to let me know what you think of the build so far. My first question is about Ballast i followed the calculation i found on fit out pontoon being 7.8meters x 3meters x 0.56(22inch draft) =13.1 x 0.85(block co-efficient) =11,100 litere's / kilos. I've guesstimated the boat fitted out will way about 7.5 tonne so im looking at 2.5 tonne of ballast. How does that sound ? and I was thinking of using solid concrete blocks/bricks or engineering bricks?
