to be honest mate, i not particularly interested in your opinion of the way i operate being self employed. It always seems to me - reading your posts - you are often happy to throw in some facetious, personal comment. oh, my mistake, perhaps you own the forum

apparent to anyone self employed! I for one don't enjoy seeing people capitalise for doing very little and not getting their hands dirty. Bit like banks really. still, you pay for money, you takes your choice!

update. went to the boat yesterday for a tinker.Isolated waterpump, ran taps and thought i'd 'diddle' with the prv top cap again. switched back on waterpump and the prv continually hammered, emitting water into bilge again. could stop it Decided to change the prv, £13, all installed, perfect. Old prv valve seat didn't look great After reading the posts, it does however, seem odd theres no expansion vessel on a sealed calorifier. maybe its because its only pressurized by the water pump, which i cant imagine is going to be that higher pressure. Oh, it was only a 3bar prv thanks all

It seems apparent the this RCR outfit is just a non practical, money making middle man. Walk away. Try and do a little more research to find an individual with a good reputation. I'm a self employed builder, which is obviously a competitive market, but in that game, quoting for free is something one has to do (and accept) in order to get a foot in the door. I would never ask for money up front, personally i think its gives the wrong impression, as everyone has heard of the unscrupulous builder who has done a runner with the cash. The nearest thing i do, is stage payments (if the job requires high financial outlay) Besides, experience will generally tell you if the client is serious or not, even within the first 5 minutes of meeting them. My philosophy is, do a good, honest job for people and be polite, tidy and punctual. In 8 years, i've never had a non payer. I appreciate it can be different for trades

yes, tried rotating the top, no difference pretty well sure its the prv emitting, not the calorifier , as said, its dripping into the bilge and no sign of leakage around the prv

Ah, sorry, should have explained. The bss report indicated it needed changing as it 'drips' when hot. the prv overflow pipe on my boat emits into the bilge and i regularly have to empty the bilge as it gets more water from the calorifier than the gland seal! I'm also suspecting the failure is caused by a probable scale build up on the prv valve seating. OR, could i just simply reduce pump and accumulator pressure in order to lazily avoid changing the prv?

re. the pressure rating, not sure, will have to check that! (not on boat atm) but looking at prvs, i should think its going to be 3 bar. The next available size is 6 bar, which seems high

Thanks guys. Yep, my mistake, the expansion tank will be the heating system, Doh. Also the calorifier is mounted horizontally.

Hi All. Need a little advice regarding replacing the prv on my calorifier. I have some plumbing experience, but i'm not sure if the calorifier is actually pressurized. As theres an open vented expansion tank in the engine cabin, i am assuming the system isn't pressurized, so guessing its just a case of unscrewing and replacing when the system is cold? thanks all.

Avoid flea bay, its full of chinese traders selling inferior goods, which will more than likely include LEDs. I've changed all my old halogens on my boat, mainly because of a concern by the bss inspector regarding the wiring size with all lights on (very unlikely, i know) I dealt with Bedazzled, fantastically informative and helpful, also most reasonably priced. Didnt have an issue with one of them not working, out of 30 bulbs!

Hi all. Before i start embarking on what appears to be an emotive topic to some(!), i have read a number of threads on the forum regarding this subject, but being a novice with boat electrics and a relatively new boater, i have found a lot of threads somewhat overwhelming! (no disrespect to any forum members) Having been on my boat for 8 months or so, i have managed so far by charging regularly either by engine power generating or my external 2.6Kw kippor generator. I would consider myself not to be a high power consumer, no toasters, electric kettle, etc. The system charges through a sterling charger, which indicates when battery bank is either in fast charge, absorbtion or flood. I think the only issue with this approach is uneconomic regarding fuels, ie, would like to know the battery state before having to charge. Therefore, i would like to install a battery monitor and probably do it myself, in order to keep the cost to a minimum! The system comprises of a bank of 3 batteries (110ah i think!) and 1 engine battery. Additionally, one solar panel. My primary requirements are:- Ease of use and not necessarily over complicated Ease of installation Cost. Grateful thanks all. Had a look this afternoon and found what i would describe as a bleed screw (knurled nut) on the side of a filter housing, undone!! hand tightened up so finger crossed. over the weekend, did check and wiped most fittings and pipes around the injectors, but other than old 'oilish' residue, nothing looked like fresh derv. Also ran the engine for an hour and checked again. Not showing signs of leakage! ditchcrawler - good shout, will clean around all filter housings next if the bleed screw isn't the issue! oh, its a B43, not 42. Doh!

Hi All, i have what appears to be diesel in the engine bilge, not a great deal, but enough to put a mop in every couple of weeks, removing perhaps a 1/2 litre (not ideal) I'm sure it isn't emulsified engine oil as the oil level remains constant The engine is a beta marine 42, with around 6000 hours, serviced regularly Wondered if anyone has any knowledge regarding this, with this type of engine.
