  1. my boat at 1500rpm in still water makes a brisk walking speed. when I bought the boat I was told it had a small prop, so cruising upstream is very slow, I'd like a bit in reserve especially on the K&A this time of year! soooo I want to swap the prop for one more suited. I need to remove the existing one to measure the taper so I can spec the new one. looking for tips to remove the prop whilst still in the water. what sort of puller do you use? how to stop the prop turning whilst undoing the large retaining nut? do it all through the weed hatch? cheers carl
  2. i was looking around for a portable oven that I could put on top of the woodburner or stove and came across a device called a bakerstone. anyone used one or anything similar? like to be able to bake a loaf but this device is designed for pizzas I'm thinking a basic metal box with a brick lining any ideas?
  3. okay thanks for the advice chaps, it made me think about running moored up in gear as a chap on our moorings runs his boat daily with it in gear. wil have a chat with him to see what his rational is o and I use a victron battery monitor!
  4. I was talking with a diesel fitter friend last night and he said that leaving the engine running at tickover to charge the batteries was a bad move, basically it can glaze the bores making the piston rings not seal correctly. he recommended a higher rpm with the engine under load. So do you leave your boat in gear when charging? cheers carl
  5. I think Bluetooth is mono, emphasise I think
  6. I have 250ah AGM batteries and the data sheet says 50A max charge
  7. I have a new squirrel and the ash door had a pin to limit how far it can open wrt the main door so it doesn't overheat. I bet this gets removed from most
  8. It's a Bummer the payg tenner for 100gb has ended on ee
  9. Yes a 24v charger would be the answer but the question is, is it still ok to charge then independent assuming no grounding issues
  10. mm I'm assuming earth and neutral are connected together at a star point. The source for the mains was from the existing or I should say original 12v victron inverter. The boat spent most of its life with a shore hookup. I insalled a separate 24v solar system but they share a common earth. The original system is 12v and alternator charged so I used this to run my victron 12v 15A charger for half hour on each battery. No big bangs so I guess the charger must be floating
  11. Good call I understand what you are saying. Yes batteries 24 and charger 12. Will check if the charger has a floating output. My concern was if 1 battery was 100% charged and the other was say flat the charged battery would see the charge current for the flat one. Unless this is not an issue
  12. There will be no load when charging. The solar will still be connected. I can give each battery say 1 hour then the other to gradually bring them up to fully charged. They are just 2 x 250 ah batteries in series the load is an inverter I switch on and off. Just this time of year the panels don't do the business
  13. What I failed to say is I have a 24v dual battery setup. Would it still be okay to fully charge one battery then charge the other afterwards?
  14. The engine plate has KF30276 stamped on it. Just trying to find my survey photos that show the prop Gearbox is a prm delta30
  15. Interesting, so connecting two cars together both running is fine then?
  16. My thinking is when you jump start a car it is best to disconnect the jump leads soon as poss so the two alternators don't fight each other but maybe this is an oldschool missconseptinon
  17. [quote name="WotEver" post="1727638" ETA Oh, I see that the usual suspect has been Googling specs again. The reason for asking if you are sure Imagine connecting two stabilised psu's together what will happen? That's my thinking
  18. I don't know the prop size will try and figure a way to look at it in the water.Wot for me feels like 1500. It's a 42hp 2ltr engine Gear ratio is prm delta30 but not sure how this relates to engine rpm
  19. 1000rpm is for passing stationary boats 1500rpm is what feels comfortable as a max cruising rpm. This equates to a fastish walking pace. Don't know what the red line is but 15 sounds fast.Your boat red lines at 200!!
  20. When I bought my boat the chaps selling it who is a marine engineer said it had a small prop. Going upstream the boat seems to struggle to make headway at 1500rmp. Then engine is a Perkins phoenix hooked to a prm30 box. I don't know the prop size or pitch. Any ideas how to sus out what it should have? The boats 57ft narrowboat
  21. I was thinking the AC charger could damage the output stage of the solar charger by feeding it a higher voltage, it is after all a switching psu with a regulated output. Didn't want them fighting each other. I wasn't sure if it is best to disconnect the solar charger first
  22. Can you connect a battery charger (mains fed) to a battery bank connected to a victron mppt solar charger? Please only answer if you are sure
  23. I had a Honda car that proper failed emissions. Bought the additive for the oil, did a couple hundred miles and she sailed the mot. I think it's based on soft metal particles which block any scratch in the bore
