  6. No to Tom and Bex's photos from their setup :-)
  7. Thank you for the pictures, good to see how it works in practice.

  9. I love the idea of the 5' wide, Our current bed is a Japanese Platform Bed.. and for me the idea of sleeping in a 4'6" wide bed again was just not going to work.. Appreciate all this good feedback.
  10. Thank you so much for all your replies. I think even I was thinking there was a lot more faff, but your comments have me being positive about them again. My DH is 6', but neither of us sleep ramrod straight.. and we have been sleepeing on a futon mattress for 15 years, and that definitely would free up some space for sure. I think that is good advice of trying a bed out.. try before you buy .. to see how much faff it is, rather than not even looking at a boat at all. Re the comment on why you would dismantle the bed at all... In my head I always thought you needed to have a way through the boat to get from Stern to the pointy end :-) Sorry for the delay, different time zone, so early here.
  11. We are still looking for a boat, and working on what we want and don't want in a boat. Every time I see a boat with a cross-bed, my DH says it would be too much hassle.. in his view you have to dissmantle the bed everyday to free up the walkway through the boat. So my question is.. is there anyone on here that lives aboard and has a cross-bed, and how do you cope with it.
  12. I have ad-block, and was asked to remove it to watch the cycling on ITV. I did so, but still get the message, so I gave up watching. Sorry, off topic. I'm assuming the same will happen with C4, so I won't be watching this Grand Designs.

  14. True, but a tad different posting a picture of a boat in passing, and a close up of a license, do you not agree that the latter is a little bit intrusive, and not the sort of random photo of boat belonging to CWDF that has been posted in the mentioned section. Jerry

  16. Hi we are not even in the UK yet, and subsequently do not have the essential narrowboat yet.. but we do have the e-canalmaps at the ready.. LOL

  19. Thank you so much to all.. I was using this link: http://ukcanals.net/marinas I am not averse to be further south, maybe around oxford or cambridge even.. I just feel the job opportunities would be there, although you might all jump on that, and say all the jobs go to the students..it wouldn't surprise me. Of course the other option is to find the right location for CCing, which we would both prefer, but it is of course the issue of working, and in some ways I think a marina makes that easier. The cost of course of marinas, especially some with amazing facilities, are going to be beyond our means. But still less than buying a house. Re being in the wrong part of Canada, that may be the case, as so many from our area are out West, and living the high life, with big houses and even bigger trucks.. and in the mean time the economy here in rural nova scotia is declining. But the bubble is bursting, many have not got their contracts renewed and big houses and big trucks, and big toys are all now for sale, and there aren't people out there with the money to buy them.
  20. Re Castle Marina, I had requested a quote (specifically Beckden Marina), and then followed up with the residential question. They replied with being able to offer 4 plus days tariff, and that you could liveaboard, but that your mail must not be delivered there. And assuming that it would be the same for the others in the Castle group. I assume many do have an address they can use legitimately for mail, but what do others on here handle that mail issue out of interest. Just so you know I am working today, so there will be no replies now until very late tonight in the UK. :-) Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks everyone for your replies. I hadn't sent a message asking Braunston if they are residential, as I realize that sometimes it is better not to actually ask that question. I am sure I had read that on here. Will check out the suggestion of leisure moorings without a limit of the time aboard. Hi Betty Boo, yes two harsh winters and we have said one more and thats it. And MTB the Canadian Taxes are really High, and in general prices are higher as everything has to be brought in by road.. the rate is 15% for purchases in Nova Sotia.. the highest in Canada. The economy is at rock bottom, with no real jobs unless you know someone, and after almost 10 years, there is always someone that knows someone more :-) Income tax .. in the Province is 8.79% and Federal is 15%. One year I was unemployed for 8 months, and I still owed the tax man $1000, I think maybe we just don't understand the intricaces of the Canadian tax system. Since we will have to work, a car will be a necessity, so somewhere out of the way would not be a real problem. Again thank you, any other suggestions would be most welcome.
  22. No not rich at all. In fact moving back from Nova Scotia to the UK, and we will need to get work, and one half of us is getting to retirement age, but can't afford to buy property back in the UK.. so since this is something we have always wanted to do.. we are trying to find a Marina that allows residential.. I know continuous crusising is an option, but my general feeling is that I have to find a permanent residential mooring while I am still working, I think working and continuous cruising can be a challenge. So to clarify, living in Nova Scotia, coming on to 10 years, and winters and taxes getting brutal, so feel it is time to move back, so truly, any advise would be very welcome. So if anyone knows of Marinas that are in a good location for reasonable jobs would be wonderful.
  23. Don't have our narrowboat yet, but looking for potential locations for a residential mooring, to get the Cart before the Horse so to speak. Does anyone know about Braunston Marina?
