I have just read this thread having spent two nights at the moorings by the flats at the last CRT lock. Can't quite understand my Nicholson's Guide's statement that they are "excellent"! To be fair, they (all three of them) are supplied with ample mooring rings and a nice paved towpath. However, there are no facilities (although the nearby Chinese is excellent), and the smell from adjacent brewery can be a bit over-powering. Today, we wandered down and found the Marina, which looks very nice. I keep coming across references to other moorings, but have been unable to find them (by B&Q, for example). Do these exist, have they gone, or are they just figments of the imagination? I am also intrigued - we do not have a Gold licence so, presumably, to venture the few hundred yards to the Marina we would have to fork out for a visitors’ licence? This thread also suggests that the Marina is expensive, but as they do not appear to have a website, I cannot find this out online. With the hard work of the locks, and the odd nearly empty pound, it is almost as if someone is trying to dissuade the casual visitor from the canal network. Or have I got this all wrong? We have actually enjoyed our stay, but it is a shame it is not more welcoming....
