  1. I am always surprised at the people I know who do read it regularly, whether they subscribe to all the thoughts put on there I dont know but many do seem to take it as factual therefore legit. I cant really accept anything that trys to separate the various legally licenced boaters regardless of who they are. All it does is play into the hands of those at CRT who would like to further resrict our use of the waterways
  2. For anyone still waiting and not aware the padlocks are now removed from Braunston Locks.
  3. I think you will find the restrictions removed tomorrow mid afternoon
  4. I believe there was a lack of interest to recent approaches to volunteer groups in the South East either by or on behalf of Jeff Whyatt for us to take one boat recording duties. Nobody at Braunston was interested, I believe Blisworth felt the same and Buckby rejected the idea when it was suggested 2 years ago. Its not that we dont think it should be done, most of us believe it to be important, we just dont feel it should be down to volunteers. Unless it is done as a regular daily excercise especially in busy areas it has little if any value.
  5. Rumour would have it that arguments started after the cabin alterations were made, the centre square section appears very out of place.
  6. The Tug Rennie I understand belongs to the family at UCC, but I think it is a shared ownership and as such there was some confusion as to which way it should be developed. As is sometimes the way with families it just sits there.
  7. I will keep an eye out but they were pretty adamant that the do not open early. I pass the bottom lock at least twice a day so I will know when the chains are off.
  8. Talking to CRT locally this morning all their work is on schedule and the opening will be as per the Waterscape published date. That being the case they will re-open on 9th March. My own thought is that you may get through on Friday late afternoon 8th March, no guarantees though.
  9. Its too early to say but the last conversation I had inferred that there wouldnt be any extensions and they were getting near ready to refill the top pound. I will try to find out more tomorroww.
  10. THe lady concerned did speak to the Chaplin at Braunston, but refused any offers of help or assistance.
  11. She is obviously moving very slowly North, She was in recent weeks in the puddle Banks area near Braunston. Whilst obviously suffering some problems, she seemed happy in her own way. Several of us have offered help of various sorts but she has refused all attempts, she does suffer from Agrophobia (I think that is the right word)a fear of confined places and has no wish to be in a building. As has been said, when she moves she leaves no trace of her being there. She is certainly not troubling anyone and worships her two dogs.
  12. Ummmmmmmm - Pot-------Kettle ?????
  13. I think you may struggle to convince even a small court that what has happened to you has caused you a loss. The surveyor did give you the original survey and it is often the case that the purchaser asks the surveyor to speak to the vendor or broker to negotiate price adjustments. Although I believe you said no deposit had been paid, there are instances where a deposit is paid subject to survey and you need the surveyors confirmation to persuade the vendor to return the deposit. I think you have had a bad deal, whether or not it woul;d be considered enough to warrant non payment or part payment of the survey cost I somehow doubt. Teadaemon has alredy stated that he as the surveyor retains the copyright of the report, this would make your argument in court rather difficult assuming your surveyor gave you the first report backed up by a written one.
  14. For many of the reasons already mentioned in this topic, I would not trust a survey done on behalf of the vendor and presented to me as a potential buyer. I am sure if there turned out to be a problem after purchase the original surveyor would not take responsibility. There is no way I could know what instructions were given originally or how comprehensive the survey was. By the same token I would not expect my surveyor to be discussing or offering details of the survey I had paid for without prior discussions with me.
  15. It is the case thet the Nelson had been sold to another buyer, Stan, Pam and the family have in a short time raised the money/finance they needed to equal the offer made and as sitting tenants they got the deal. I suppose we could live in hope that the other purchaser may now consider the New Inn as an alternative, rumours are that they had looked at both these properties and they obviously have finance available.
  16. Well, after a weekend of rumours and a hectic closing down party, there has been confirmation tonight that The Admiral Nelson will continue to trade. The better news is that it will be a free house. The family who are the current tenants have negotiated a purchasae with Enterprise, it seems as sitting tenants they were able to get first refusal on the premises. They have had to work hard to sort out their finances but it should hopefully provide a better business for them and a better long term deal for the customers. Our support is now needed more thn ever.
  17. Its far easier to claim exageration sat in an office, it becomes more difficult when you are up to your ankles in mud. This after a fairly dry week but the tide marks are obvious.
  18. We have today persuaded CRT to come and look at the problem ( to be fair a lot of the problems are coming from the fields over which they have no control - see notes about our friendly farmer and the previous post) the planned closures for maintenance are already there and labour is committed til the end of March. There will however be a serious attempt to sort the towpath between Lock 2 and Lock 3 in the near future. This will obviously be led by CRT but will also be supported by local groups, these are likely to include Braunston Canal Society and the Friends of Raymond Group amongst others.
  19. David - The farm is still owned by the same family, the father died a couple of years ago and one of the sons now runs the farm you refer to on Dark Lane. They also own land and farm the opposite side of the canal. The other brother has just built a new farmhouse on the South side of the canal so there is now even more farm traffic accross the bridge outside the Nelson. The present occupant on Dark Lane is not approachable in a very similar way to his father. The extra heavy traffic over the bridge in our current very wet weather is adding to problems with mud being washed down onto the towpath especially under the bridge.
  20. You take your life in your hands dealing with the said local Braunston farmer or his father before him. There are several stories about blocked bridges etc. Even his sheep have attitude, they chase the dogs round here.
  21. Whether or not they would have survived the winter we will never know but having made the commitment they have with their owm money and labour they were determined to make it work. They were awaiting the owners renewing their lease, they have not stopped trading and had no intention of doing so. They recieved the news yesterday that rather than get a new lease they were out since the owwners had found a buyer. As it stands we dont know whether it will continue as a pub and if so when it will reopen. Having had quite a few convewrsations with them in the last few weeks I dont believe they had anticipated this outcome.
  22. The full story has yet to come out, but it does appear that the property has been sold. Whether it will continue to be a pub is unknown. The existing tenants have been waiting since the New Year to find out whether there lease would be extended and on what terms. Their reqquest for a longer than 6 month lease when they went in 12 months ago was flatly refused by Enterprise.
  23. Bad news again I am afraid, the Nelson will be closing at the weekend, It seems Enterprise have sold it to someone, we are not sure what the future holds. Our sympathy is with Pam and Liam, they have tried so hard to make it a pub to be proud of. It seems that all their efforts and investment was for nothing.
