  2. Hi All Early this year had a bit of of problem with the unit mikuni mx40 heater whilst running it decided to just put smoke out of the exhaust, it was like a scene out of James Bond movie anyway all shut down decided to remove the unit and send it for servicing, the unit returned late so had to fit it after my holiday so a bit of a time delay, once fitted would not start up and then after several attempts the glow plug gave up(melted), contacted the service company who said it was usually I must have tried it too many time without letting it cool down, possible so I ordered another glow plug fitted and guess what happened on the first try the glow plug has given up (melted) and now I cannot now get it out of the housing. Has anyone had similar faults If so how was it sorted Or do I just put it in the bin Any recommendations for a reliable unit. I will be contacting the service center on Monday but I'm not putting in another glow plug.
  3. Have been offered 2 new chrome liners and have been asked to make an offer, but we both don't know the price!! Any ideas please. Also need one more so has anyone out there got one in their shed that's collecting dust ?

  7. I think your right and I had a feeling this was the case, now looking for a boatyard to have a look or get it sent to you for complete overhaul. Kevin.
  8. Update to my previous posts, the strip down de gaze bores did not work and all looked so good to the eye plus to other persons eyes so back to square one, but I have gained some knowledge on stripping down a JP3 and built up some muscles at the same time, next step is to strip down again but this time renew linners and pistons, now going to throw a question to you guys, Indian linners has anyone had any issues with them ? Or a contact to get English ones? on a seperate note I have owned a Indian Royal Enfield for 5 years or so and it's been very reliable, just thought I would put it out there. Regards Kevin.
  9. Hi Richard My jp has not got chrome liners , Dave could be right load the enging up with travel pack maybe, Crowther have come back to me and have said I do not need to re prop after giving them all the info, may be re pitch but sound the right set up?
  10. Hi, just throwing a question out there, I have a 62' SM Hudson with a JP3 engine which has a 26" x 19 with 3 blade right hand prop and in my opinion works just fine, anyway just rebuilt engine and now run in, it has been sugested that I need the engine has to work harder to stop this hapening again? now to the question a; do I re pitch to 21 or 22 or B; use a Crowther prop 24 x 21 80% aspect blade? over to you.
  11. Hi all Many many thanks for your info, the liners are not chrome, invited a local diesel engineer who is familiar with lister engines over to have a look and he comfimed faults including diesal wash out that Martyn had pointed out some time ago, but I've not been able to carry out the work until now, I must admit I did expect chrome liners, so the last rebuild they may have been changed then, Kevin
  12. Many thanks for the information.
  13. Well the JP3 apart, glazed bores, so need to order some rings and gaskets etc and de-glaze the bores, just looking for information on torque setting but can't find any? Big end and heads torques required for when we put it back together, anyone have them? Can't find them in the manuals.
  14. only just started Gareth should have pistons out on Friday, then a good look at rings and cylinder liner bores as there had been a lot of oil being pushed out, but not all the time!! and the engine running spot on all the time was a bit confusing, post more on Sunday thanks for the info on the washers all normal.
  15. Well its the end of the season and time to look for the fault, a bad oil leak through the the exhaust pipe onto the flywheel cover and out the top under revs, heads off and sripped two values very loose and I mean loose and parts of the value guides ends broken off, so off to the shop to be overhauled, next pistons out, one thing I noticed there were no washers under the head nuts is this right? update soon
  16. The fuel tank is below the injectors and a separate return, easy to disconnect and try, the injectors are original type injectors with needles.
  17. Thank you all, I had spoken to you Martyn and you gave me great info and your time, just thought someone might have a similar fault before I take out the injectors and send them for repair. the return from the injectors to the fuel tank is clear, will let you know the outcome.
  18. Hi I have a JP3 starts and runs perfectly, but I have a fuel leak from the top of my injectors well 2 of them, all is OK if running with low revs I have no leaks, but run with high revs they leak!! the exhaust runs clear (well some smoke I think is normal) but every now and then I get excess smoke and fuel drops on the roof and out of the bottom of the exhaust joint and just as a side issue but may be connected I have started to see some air bubbles around the valves in the head oil bath any suggestions?
  19. Once met never forgotton, we had a guided tour of his fabulous boat yard, he took time out of his busy day showing us his process from start to finish, then helped us without hesitation when we had injector proplems, will be sadly missed, condolences to the family. Lock Keeper River Thames
  20. Well we made it back before the weather turned nasty, had long days but it was a great trip.
  21. We know how you feel we have just bought our first narrow boat in preparation to retire, we have just spent the last 10 days bringing her home from Mercia Marina, had a great trip even though it rained for two days, we got back before the weather turned, we still have that smug grin on our faces, enjoy.
