    hull survey

I know the boat and the owner,he has owned it for 30 years, he had it plated 10 years ago and now has just come out of dry dock after blacking. I also know the person who blacked it and he never saw anything obviously wrong with the boat. So do i insure it 3 party until i can get surveyed and then if and when it is ok insure it fully. Is there any people just insure there boats 3rd party

    hull survey

The problem I have, I am buying a boat which I know is in the lower end bracket price range. But where we are there are no places available to put it into dry dock and also with the closure of canals for a few months which makes matters worse. I could insure the boat 3rd party and then when the canals open and there is a place in dry dock book in for a survey. What do you all think

    hull survey

The last survey was carried out and later over plated but 10 years ago so now as the owner a hull survey is needed for comp insurance or go down to just 3rd party. Is that too big a risk

    hull survey

Because the age of the boat the insurance people say after 7 years a survey is needed even using the same company as the owner

  14. I was walking through the Rochdale nine 2 weeks to get the feel of the place and was considering going through to do the cheshire ring. There was a boat in the lock with no water not a good place to be at night but this was afternoon and after await of 2 hrs he was on his way i talked to the couple and offered to help the lady do the locks which she was very happy with. We approached the underground lock and the lady was not happy going into as you could see two men hanging around in dark shadows we pushed our way pass and started to open the paddle but realised we would need to open the paddles on the other side but there was a further two men on that side with a small fire. The lady would not cross over and when i did the two men walked away there was dozens of needles laying on the floor we opened the gates which altogether must of taken some twenty minutes the man still on the boat and his wife out of sight all this time not knowing what was going on. They thanked me very much for my help and carried on to the Ashton canal and i walked back. I have been told you can get help through the Rochdale nine but when i phoned CRT they said they would get back to me if they could help but have not contacted me as yet, i asked for help on the forum but no one could help so we decided not to bother there is no way i would let my wife attempt doing these locks on her own she is not strong enough and you do not know who or what these people are capable of, it is a pity she will not try and steer the boat and i could do the locks
  15. Thanks i will give it ago
  16. My ropes on my narrow boat have started to become stiff making it harder to tie up, has anyone got any suggestions on making the ropes more supple or is it time to replace them thanks

    Foot Wear

Well it had to happen, i went to my boat at the marina to go away for a few days on my own, Loaded the boat but as i walked around the stern my feet shot from underneath me and fell in head first. I do not know how i did not bang my head as i entered the water as there is little space between the boat and jetty. My legs must of hit the jetty which was cut and bruised and then started to swell up with a lump the size of a coconut. The shock of slipping on some mud or goose muck and no one around as made me write to remind people to be very careful getting on or off the boat, i think i was very lucky to have come out of this the way i have. So can any body recommend good foot wear so i don't slip again i was wearing Hi-tec type trainers what do you all wear
