  1. Oh, I never thought of that. Be better if I don't get a dog
  2. Tee Heee, reminds of the time I was in France on my Bike and I stuck two fingers up at a prat in a big motorhome who tried to take me out in Dieppe, later when I returned to the campsite he was parked up enjoying a beer, we spoke and he and his wife turned out to be a really nice.
  3. I think It's called George Clarks amazing spaces forget when it's on but I saw it first time around and yes there is a boat on it.
  4. Hi Yamanx, Oh no I would never leave a dog on it's own all day, whilst at work my sister would look after it because she wants a dog but can not really afford one so would love looking after mine. Hi, thanks for the info. I have my heart set on a trad style because the extra lockable space would be more useful in the long run. Thanks for the link Ray T.
  5. Thanks Starcoaster,as you say it all comes down to the design I've looked at some 45 footers which are badly designed and just do not work very well at all.
  6. And then you still have the parts to pay for
  7. The idea of buying the boat before a mooring is so that I will have to travel about, thus allowing me to gain experiance and getting to know the boat. I have talked to some boat owners who bought the boat and had it installed onto a mooring and have never cruised. Ps I hope the wine is a good un
  8. Thanks everyone for the advice I'm gonna put my house up for rent, buy a 50 foot trad narrow boat, shop around for a mooring ( I've heard Leggers are cheap)buy a dog and join the world of boating.
  9. Thanks Fido, My thinking is that if I own a boat outright I will save £450 a month on the Mortgage plus the £400 per year for water rates. The price of the boat licence is no different to the council tax I pay. My other thoughts are that you pay before you use on a boat like Coal, gas, diesel, phone top up and internet dongle so if you don't have the money you can not buy the goods. In house you have bills every 3 months which can be a struggle to meet. And I just aint happy with all the debt
  10. Cheers Deans, It still sounds loads of fun to me

  12. It's stories like this that add to my wanting to live full time on a NB. You boaters are my kind of people.
  13. Look on the Maplins webpage they sell loads of sat dishes for MH.
  14. Thanks Bobbybass I will be spending a long time on here looking at all of the info, I will have about £30000 to spend and after looking at Apolloduck I can buy a 45-50 footer with a good layout. I'm very handy at DIY, and I'm into motorbikes and do all of my own servicing. I have a friend who is a diesel fitter who would help me to service the boat engine for the first time so I learn what to do.
  15. Thanks Tobymonster. I did look into renting out my home, but on the streets by me loads of empty homes up for rent it would be a big gamble but I,m going to do more research in that area.
  16. Hi. I have been doing loads of research and after talking to a retired couple up here in Yorkshire, they were telling me that their boat is 62 feet long and have lived aboard for more then ten years and in all that time have never had a problem with fitting into locks.
  17. Thank you bottle. living on a boat will be a fantastic adventure. I'm trying to get some idea of cost because my mortgage is £450 per month plus council tax and water rates and I find it a struggle. so it would be cheaper to rent a bedsit but where is the fun in that. On a boat I can move from place to place. Thanks Tonie. That's good news because I can buy a forty footer outright so would only have the running costs.
  18. Thanks Phil that's a big help. some of them boats are 60 feet and would cost loads on the up keep.
  19. Hi all I'm looking to living full time on a Narrow boat due to the fact that being single it's getting harder and harder to pay my way. I have been doing loads of research and walking along the Huddersfield Canel talking to some boaters, most are helpfull, some are rude. But what I would like to know is; what would be the best size for living full time, is it best to have a mooring or is it better to cruise? what sort of cost is involved? surely there must be a minimum cost.My boss informed us all at work that he could only offer employment untill April 2014 so can one claim benefits whilst living on a boat? Whats the differance between a Trad style and a Semi trad style? Sorry for being a bore. Thanks in advance. Life's all work, if we don't stop once in a while and take a look around we'll miss it.
