  1. Hi, I have had a hose on the roof several times and had (as far as I was concerned) sealed every possible place water could get in. When I bought the boat the damage was considerable and it meant that I had to take down half of a bulkhead, kitchen units on one side and bathroom units on the other. The rear cabin bilge had a fair amount of water in it too. I may have reduced the ingress to a slow drip as there is no water in the bilge and the areas of damp beneath the tiled area are the only evidence of a leak. The idea of a cover was to minimise this further Captain Birdseye's suggestion of using magnets rather than press studs is interesting and I am giving that a bit of thought Cheers Dean
  2. Thanks both, I will continue to tinker as report back when I eventually find a solution Dean
  3. Hi everyone and thanks for the replies, I should have mentioned in my opening post that the hatch has a semi-circular roof section also. Tonka, that is a fair point but I was assuming that the cover would extend over the centre arch of the roof by say 150mm so diverting any rainwater from the centre either down the cover or down to the hatch free side of the roof. I appreciate that this cover would not stop every drop of rain from getting to the hatch but minimize it a great deal. Ally, I will try Kinver Canopies, thank you Thanks again for all replies Dean
  4. Hi, I bought my boat about a year ago.It had a leaky side hatch which appeared to have been letting in for quite some time as I had to strip out much of the galley due to the damage caused by water ingress. This work was completed during the summer months as well as attempting to identify the leak and cure it..I made a section of tiling beneath the hatch removable for inspection to make sure that I had cured the problem in the long term. It appears however that I have not cured the leak entirely as I had the removable tiled section off yesterday and there were areas of damp beneath the hatch. There is not much more I can do to seal the hatch and I have resigned myself to the fact that it is a poor design (unless the water tank is almost full any rainwater runs down the roof, down the roof drain by the hatch and hits the upper hinge area full on). I recall somewhere seeing a boat with a cover fitted over the side hatch with press studs and as I remember it looked quite tidy. Can anyone tell me if they have had a similar cover fitted and if so can they give me any pointers that I should be aware of? I will continue to try to cure the leak but a cover would certainly give me a bit of peace of mind especially over the winter months Thanks Dean
  5. I was moored at Shady Oak Saturday and Sunday. They have made a really good job of the refurbishment, very bright and smart decor and very much improved. Apparently there will be food on in a week or so and you will be able to pay by card too, not cash only as it was before. I imagine it will be very busy over the coming months.....
  6. Thanks for the update Tillergirl. It's good to hear that it hasn't closed altogether .I'll have a run up there at Easter for a look...
  7. Thanks, that would be appreciated
  8. Hi, does anyone know what the latest is at the Shady Oak pub near Beeston Castle? has it reopened? cheers
  9. The isolator is definitely in the -ve so 2 +ve's it is then, thanks again
  10. jodansgang, Nicknorman, I connected the shoreline and the negative croc clip only and the full 12v supply became live with the isolator off.Can I take it that an isolator on the positive side is the answer? it does seem the most obvious to me, I don't like the idea of leaving the charger on while I am away with the 12v live, even with everything switched off, cheers, Dean
  11. Jodansgang, i'll have a look at it next weekend and let you know.I'm determined to solve the problem and thanks again for all the comments.I'll let you know the outcome as soon as I can, cheers, Dean
  12. Jodansgang, yes, only when connected to shoreline.Otherwise isolator isolates everything, Dean
  13. Thanks for the information, much appreciated, Dean
  14. Nicknorman, can you tell me why some boats isolation would be on the - and others on the + ?, what are the pro's and con's of each? please excuse my ignorance, thanks
