  1. I'll offer a firm £50 for it.

    Anyway.

Has it got a key type ignition? If so then switch it to 'on' would probably energise the fuel pump and possibly the fresh water pump as well. Might be worth leaving in the 'on' position for a few seconds before starting?

One of my generators is a compact HFL Dc generator and I made my own control box for it using an on switch and a start button. The on switch starts the fuel pump and the fresh water pump.

Anyway it may be nothing like that but it seems to me you are suspicious about the fuel supply for some reason?

  2. Hi All,

I have just bought a 1987 27ft Highbridge Crusader which is being delivered Wednesday i have done many searches for this type of boat and cannot find that many are there any Highbridge owners on here or is there any website that has pictures of this particular boat. I am very interested in what type of different interior layouts other boats of this type have we cannot wait until she is delivered like a pair of kids me and the wife are icecream.gif so in the meantime ANY pics of the Highbridge would really wet our appetite and give us some ideas of what other layouts are like? thanks in advance clapping.gif

I can't help as I am not familiar with this boat. It might be worth asking on ybw forums (for example the thames forum).

There are a few people on here with knowledge of GRP cruisers so you might get something.

    Good luck :)

  3. Anyone know if the moorings below Shepperton Lock are free? They are where you turn for the Wey. Also near where the ferry lands. Surrey bank.

24h for free on lady Lindsey's lawn on the old river. They have had squatter problems so someone will probably turn up and check you are only doing 24h - they don't charge at least did not last year when I moored there.

(Its about 5 minutes upstream from the Red Lion on the right hand side - open grassy bank half of which is authorised moorings. About 10 minutes walk to shepperton.

  4. There is always the pub just before the Sunbury lock. Last month I took the right hand route round the island just after Hampton Court, made a change. I didn't realise that you could until I saw one of the large trip boats going that way. Same approaching Mosley lock although that entails a near 90 degree turn.

I saw one of the turks boats going round the back of Thames Ditton Island a couple of weeks ago. Not sure I would fancy coming the other way at the same time as its a pretty narrow channel round there !

I was a bit surprised to see them round there I wonder if it is appreciate by locals. I suppose they might help to prevent it silting up so could be quite a Good Thing.

I always turn right immediately above Molesey Lock as I prefer the variety of boats round the back there. 2 storey houseboats and some nice barges opposite at the little boatyard :)

Also less rowers as they tend to use the normal channel.

  5. I went round the old river a couple of weeks ago. There were some works taking place by Halliford bends which I think is where you mean so that could be the pub moorings I suppose. Despite having been to school 100m from there from 12 to 18 years old (Halliford) I have no idea if there is a pub called the red lion there

  6.

However, looking at their website they advertise Mase generators.

Mase do a small (~2.5kw) marine diesel generator in a soundproof enclosure which has a yanmar air cooled diesel engine and an intercooler so that the cooling air can be cooled by water. I saw one at the boat show - it is a very compact unit and interesting except that the small air cooled units are not really designed for longevity so it might be a bit "gimmicky"

There is a second hand one on eBay - not the current model but similar http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=231962583338

  7.

I guess it depends if it is in a place that is causing a problem

    Richard

If its the one on the Avon is that CRT or another authority? I would guess that the authorities have probably given the owner a deadline by which time it has to be removed and if it isn't they will do a "professional" salvage/scrapping and pursue the owner for costs.

That's why its on eBay I reckon.

Or it is a joke listing ?

  8.

I haven't taken my barge up there (58x12 with fold down wheelhouse) but I think the point made earlier about cabin top width is important. My cabin has a d strake welded all round the top edge - I found out why this was when navigating through Islington tunnel - it protects the cabin top edges from damage when they hit the brickwork due to not keeping the boat in the middle

  9. Islington tunnel is pretty short but it is an odd one.

I think it is probably haunted quite badly by quite few ghosts. I have been through Braunston and Blisworth tunnels about a dozen times and islington about 5 times including last weekend and there is something "different" about it even though it is a short one.

I don't actually believe in supernatural stuff at all but it does have a vibe to it.

I can recommend a spotlamp on the hatch as a way to make it less claustrophobic - even a mobile phone flash torch helps :)

  10. This wacco just has a hole at the back but strangely the water isn't coming from there as I put a paper towel in the hole for a few days and it was bone dry. I'm sure I will work it out

Where is the water coming from?

Maybe if its out of bottom of the door the fridge is not levelled properly.

I can hear if my fridge is unsuccessfully attempting to start due to low voltage - squeaks a bit then stops then tries again a bit later on. Its a Danfoss compressor driven unit. I don't know if Waeco are the same though.

  11. I keep a cable tie in the fridge for occasional poking of the drain hole. Pretty sure it was originally a tip on this forum

It's a 4.8mm cable tie I think it's 150mm long just so it reaches right through the hole. I have explained it to the woman on board and it has been accepted as reasonable ;)

Apparently said drain hole exhausts above the compressor which is hot while running so the water evaporates immediately. That's if the fridge is running and has not cut out due to low voltage.

  12. All our hot water is supplied by a Morco instant water heater. Residential barge with a woman and two children (and a man!) and a bath. It was on the boat when I bought it 4,years ago and has been faultless. Not sure how it works with boat safety scheme when it comes to fitting one in a boat.

I also have a calorifier with.engine, central heating and immersion hot water but it has not been used even though we are currently on mains electric.

Big advantage of the morco is its hot water when you need it and does not run out like a storage tank.

  13. Is it a villager stove?

If so then just shear the nuts and studs off then drill either right through or if you are equipped drill and tap the door m6 thread and screw some fasteners on to secure the glass. It is worth buying the little spring clips as last time I did this on a villager puffin using normal washers I broke the new glass as I tightened it :banghead:

I have done this on 3 different villager stoves I have had - once tapping a thread and the other two drling right though and adding a nut.

Of course it might not be a Villager stove !

  14. Its definitely an interesting topic this one. The perennial problem of how to stop people putting the wrong thing in a boat bog and how to deal with it if they do.

One option may be to put in some sort of weedhatch or mudbox arrangement between bog and pump and add a clause to the hire contract which says the hirer is responsible for cleaning it if it gets blocked

Limehouse Marina have an elsan hopper which is pumped to the sewer. They have had problems with baby wipes stopping the pump. They now have a notice to the effect that legal action will be taken if anyone puts anything down it which has not been digested or something like that
