  1. Simon & jan - we too are having a widebeam built (delivered as a sailaway as of mid March). I'm fitting a Webasto system to the boat and having worked with these heaters over the years, can say, so long as they are maintained then they are reliable. Our widebeam will be moored at Burton Waters if you ever want to drop by and see how the fit out is going!?
  2. Ahhhhh heaven personified! Nakedness, Guiness and a bbq............that's the reason we've bought the boat (taking ownership next week and can't wait!!!!)
  3. Seems pretty clear to me; they are after a dynamic individual, who has the flexible outlook and attitude required to run a business offering multiple services..........................I'm interested, CV sent!!
  4. You're probably missing nothing; it's more like we're over doing things slightly.......... COLD HEADS - 1 x WC, 1 x basin tap, 1 x bath tap, and a feed for the shower. GALLEY - Cold feed for Sink Tap, then if HWSBO gets what they want, a cold filtered drinking water tap. UTILITY - Basin cold feed, Washing machine. HOT HEADS - 1 x Basin tap, 1 x Bath tap & 1 x shower feed. GALLEY - 1 x Sink Hot Tap. UTILITY 1 x Basin tap, Hot connection to TMV for washing machine. Let me know if I'm missing something though!!!! Thanks for all the advice guys; as always! We've already purchased the expansion vessels for both the cold & hot side of things; maybe even a third if I decide to go down the pressurised heating route as well. I'll definitely not go for the Shurflo, Jabsco seem to provide the reliability I'm looking for.
  5. Thanks - that's the kind of advice I'm hoping for; Shurflo are attractive due to being slightly cheaper; but as we're living aboard, and wanting reliability, then I'm prepared to pay a little more. The Jabsco looks good on paper!
  6. Hi all, and thanks for reading! We're looking for a freshwater pump for the boat and have been looking at Whale, Shurflo and Jabsco. They're all about the same price from what we've seen, but which is going to be the most reliable/easiest to service etc? I know pump manufacturers will be a personal thing, and it will depend on the set up, but I'd appreciate a little clarification as, as usual, too much information can confuse! The pump will be providing supply to 14 outlets (not all at once)- including shower, WC, galley and utility area..................all advice welcomed and needed
  7. Congrats guys, we might see you when you venture northwards - look out for the wide beam 'Stand Down'.....that's if I manage to complete the fit out this coming summer
  8. PM sent NMEA, and many thanks! Yes to to the offer of the workshop manual as well..... Yours Aye Sean
  9. We have purchased a radio, given that we plan to do a lot of the northern Trent as we head up that way then I know we will need one. Life jackets and an anchor are also ready to go - roll on next month!
  10. Alan - do I need the ATIS function on the VHF? I'm reading this to be required, but I could have read things wrong!
  11. That's what I had in mind idleness; how did you secure the wooden blocks to the vertical surface - a %^&*ing string adhesive? "Strong...........", big fingers small keyboard!!!!
  12. We're getting close now! Picking up the boat on 15 March and will be starting the final parts of the fit out as of the following week. The house looks like a chandlery with bits for the boat (our home to be) all over the place and we can;t wait to start fitting it all. As usual, as more and more thought goes into this, more and more questions seem to be arising; many of which I have found answers to via previous forum posts, but some outstanding ones are still 'on my mind'. So if my fellow boaters wouldn't mind indulging me once again........ 1. Any advice on the best way to secure a vertical calorifier in the engine bay (cruiser stern) would be gratefully appreciated, otherwise I will, I have no doubt, completely over engineer something that is probably quite simple!? 2. Running piping (heating etc) in the engine room - do you secure pipe clips directly to the steel, or glue, bolt wooden mounts and then screw clip into them? 3. On a slightly different note, but still related; we're transporting the boat to Newark and then planning the final cruise to our marina near Lincoln via the Trent and along the Fossdyke via Torksey lock. Although I've cruised many canals, I've not been on tidal waters as yet, so advice on that particular stretch of the Trent and through the lock will be gladly welcomed................. I'm sure there'll be more questions to follow......bear with!!
  13. NMEA - would you be prepared to email the same document to me please? I'm about to commence the install of my widebeam and have the Thermo 90S as well. A bit cheeky of me I know, but it would be extremely useful.
  14. Yes, but all advice is most welcomed believe me!! I appreciate that having 2 calorifiers might be excessive; however, this boat will be our home, and thus I am wanting fit her out as best as possible within our budget. I can purchase a Webasto Thermo 90ST at a good price and having done my calculations, am happy that this would more than meet the needs of the system design. However, forum postings ref the 90ST are few and far between (unless I'm searching incorrectly); this is either a good thing because they are reliable (assuming regular servicing/de-coking), or because they're not so common.............feedback welcomed!
  15. Due to the good lady insisting on a bath for the new boat, I am considering fitting two 55l calorifiers so that there is the sufficient hot water for occasional bath. At present I am planning on fitting a Webasto 5Kw diesel heating system; does any one know if it will cope with the additional heating coil on top of the planned 4 radiators, 1 towel rail and heating coil that would make a normal system up? Would appreciate any advice from anyone who has or is considering a similar set up.......Many thanks!
  16. Another solution is to employ the short term use of some flushing oil; this'll assist in removing a lot of the water and other debris from the engine inners - then new filter and a good quality oil. If your engine is of the older variety and well worn in, then before you do this check the manufacturers recommendation, as some flushing oils can be a little too powerful and remove other wise sealing debris from the cylinder linings.
  17. System4 - if you find what you're looking for re bullet point 11 then let me know - we're also looking for nirvana!
  18. Hamsterfan, also as a fellow professional, I agree, BLUE and WHITE only for potable water vessels, although the RED is pretty much the norm in most boats. Screwfix, or any good high street merchant sell the correct ones for a pretty good price.
  19. Never mind the debate and discussion Dean - we await your blog update!! As soon to be sailaway 'liveaboard - fitter outers!?', reading through you're trials and successes has been interesting thus far; have you decided to no longer blog?
  20. Excellent news - we're both really jealous as we have another 16 odd weeks before we can realise our dream!!!! Enjoy the New life and keep us posted - we'll learn from you!
  21. Junior, you're post is very intersting due to us both also looking for a berth for our boat to be delivered in March next year. Thank you to everyone who has passed on their knowledge and wisdom - we're so glad we joined the forum well in advance of being actual owners!
  22. We've bought a sailaway, but had it lined and fitted with a couple of extras to suit. Our reason - having looked at many boats we couldn't quite find what we were looking for and thus decided to go down the sailaway route. I'm and engineer and looking forward to the challenges of fitting out our home - mind you, we're also moving on board not long after it's delivered next March so the adventure really begins then!!
  23. DeanS - We're taking the plunge, with me living on board for the first couple of weeks whilst I sort out the plumbing; then I'll be joined by the good lady and the dogs!! The adventure begins then................... Thanks all - lots for to think about and plan for; I'll keep the forum posted with our progress (and other questions I've no doubt)............
  24. Delivered to Evesham - built elsewhere........a good point, thus far I have lived with the assumption that just because they usually deliver their boats to Evesham for final checks and handover etc, that we would have to then move the boat from there. I will investigate the company delivering the boat elsewhere and doing the handover at a location of our choice. Thank you!
  25. Thanks Athy, Exactly the reason why I'm keen to utilise someone on good advice and from previous experience. We've looked at sailing her around, but unless I can enter the seven estuary, then take the Kennt & Avon before heading north as far as i can before lifting the boat for transport (lord knows how long that would take!?!); it looks like road transportation is the way forward...............I'll seek advice from Nigel, thank you!!
