  1. Does the old packing really go hard if it’s constantly pressurized with grease?
  2. Who removes old packing before repacking the stern tube and why? I was told that the Royal Navy didn't.
  3. I’ve already replaced the V-belt. What I wanted to know is why the 10 amp fused.
  4. Correct? There’s only one belt but you’re right it’s a water pump/alternator belt not a fan belt. Actually Mastervolt manual calls it a “V-belt”?
  5. Mastervolt whisper 6000 generator. My fan belt snapped, I replaced it then noticed the 10 amp fuse had also blown. How are the 2 connected?
  6. Is there any way to transfer photos from old mobile phones before getting rid of them?
  7. How do you know this? You'd think that there'd be a recipe on YouTube but all the ones I've seen get nowhere need that restaurant flavour.
  8. Yes but is heating oil not 28 second? I know Gardners were able to run on paraffin, according to the manual.
  9. Gasp .... my 75 years old 4LW may only have days to live!
  10. Exactly. Still an intrusion on privacy methinks.
  11. The water rail & pump on my 4LW is aluminium or similar, but the crankcase is iron. So what’s the galvanic reaction situation?
  12. That’s what I’m going to do. I just think having them on permanent float has led to them deteriorating.
  13. I’m disconnecting my solar controllers and checking the charge in the batteries every week. No power is being used on the boat during the winter so there’s no need to have the controllers in float mode.
  14. I’ve never understood why graphite based packing is available. Graphite is Top of the Galvanic series so not very good for steel propshafts.?
  15. The strange thing is....my starter battery, which also has an Episolar MPPT controller/ single 100W panel, constantly shows 14.5 volts just like my Trojans were showing. Are my 3 controllers overcharging the batteries even though the float setting is 13.8v? But if the material drops to the bottom, why is the bulge in the centre of the end panel??
  16. Trouble is I don’t know how long these bulges have been there. Not something I’ve ever thought to look for in the past. I think it’s probably more for ventilation.
  17. That’s what Trojan told me If you can push the end-wall in with your finger, then it’s just the weight of the acid pushing against the unsupported polypropylene container. If you can’t, then the plates have began to buckle.
  18. Can you press the bulges inwards or are they solid?
  19. Can anything be done to reverse sulphation? Before I shell out for a new set.?
  20. So any suggestions as to who might do the best deal on 6 x Trojan 105s? Tayna look OK at £882 (inc VAT & delivery).
  21. They have never been hot.....ever.
  22. OK I’ll put a balloon on the breather and I’ll check if it gets bigger on a hot day?
  23. I'm going to block the breather on my diesel tank with masking tape and remove it next summer.
