  1. No I havent "messed" with it. When I bought the ProD I have a long chat with Sterling and said I wanted to float at 14.8v. NO Problem he said.

  3. I have been told the same but would only do 17v if I could get it if all the DC was isolated. I do the equalisation charge at 15.8v and that seems to do no harm. The water pump don't half go though! Mine looks nothing like that. Today I came off overnight mains and the batteries settled at 14.6v I set off and for about 20mins the voltage from the Alt / ProD went to 14.8v then dropped back to 14.3v for about 2 hours then to 14.1v until we stopped. Does anyone know what the trimmer in the ProD does? Anyone?
  4. My batteries are 1180a/h made up of 6 x 2v traction cells. 350kg in all. 14.8v will do them no harm and is where I want them to be bulk charging. Also I have self watering so won't boil dry. I know the Sterling is doing its thing because I can hear it load and unload the engine as the alternator temperature sensor cuts in and out. Aligned with this I see the battery voltage meter rise and fall as the Sterling has control or the alternator has control. What I want to know is what the adjustment inside does.
  5. I have one of these jiggle pump siphon things They are excellent.
  6. My ProD isn't getting to 14.8v at the batteries best I get is 14.4v, it is at the Alterntor output. This is after hours or running even after a full mains charge. Inside the ProD is a small trimmer. What does this adjust? Mr Sterling won't tell me. Today after a full overnight equalisation charge the batteries were at 14.6v. 4 hours later of running I have only 14.4v showing on the battery voltage. This can't be right?
  7. Oh dear, I think this will be interesting. Having done it, I think your estimates are way off in all areas. But never say never See my build blog.
  8. Yes that is the bike and the chain guard went a long time ago. Bloody useless thing.
  9. Thanks for clearing that all up. Now I have been mocked and slagged here for having 114hp in a WBNB, as Avalon was always built for European waters. Now you can see why. Very useful when you need to overcome the forces of the water including passing boats. I get about 60hp at 1000 rpm and this gets me about 4.5mph so we get along quite nicely at just over tickover. Just seen what I think is a Liverpool WB go past "Mable Rose" He seems to be coping quite well too.
  10. Hello Tam I have looked at the VNF site and this is all I can find for the rates. Where can I find what you are saying
  11. We have played with some big toys as well. Linky 1 A big lift and a little one. Linky 2 A big inclined plane.
  12. Hi Thanks for the replies. This is the model I can ride it too easy in 7th, I can pull away and apart from an occasional incline it stays in 7th all the time. When on power assist if I peddle to keep up with max assist I am peddling so fast I am bouncing on my seat which makes me unstable so I end up not bothering or going down to 2nd stage power assist. The sensor for the peddle assist is on a separate part of the crank shaft and not connected to the chain wheel. Also does the length of the peddle arm make much difference. I don;t know the size of the cogs on the 7 speed, but anything lower than 4th is a waste of time. Its a road bike so such low gears are not required. It won't be going up mountains or doing tricks. The wheel is 20".
  13. It was bobbing up and down a bit much like boats should. At the stern is not very noticable but I suppose at the front it would be more so. That is an empty tanker.
  14. Hi Just add yourself to the following section or signup for email alerts. if you want to see more of the boat and its build see www.boatbuildblog.blogspot.com. Martin. I'm pleased to say we are having no issues what so ever. Avalon handles just fine on the waterways and in the locks.
  15. Hello Tim We have done about 350 miles on Belgium waterways much of it on Class 4 waterways with stuff like this a very regular sight bit loaded and empty. So far we have had no issues either passing opposing ore being overtaken. Some of them are moving at 10kn or more in high speed sections.
  16. Hello Tam When I was asked what I wanted I said I wanted one to the end of the year. I was offered no options. I will take this up with VNF. Thanks Tam. I have to contact them anyway because they, despite me writing my address in block capitals and postcode the muppet still managed to get it wrong.
  17. Hi All We have reached France Blog Linky
  18. I have a question about the size of my electric bike chainwheel. it is only 40 teeth and I am always in 7th gear . I need to step it up some but by how much. My road bike years ago was 52 teeth on a 5 speed shimano set. I reacall the top gear was 52/16 (It was a few years ago). Advice please.
  19. Hi Brian. I am chilled. That is in my opinion a pretty accurate summing up of the situation in Cambridge. I only bought the 2nd year licence to be a PITA to the council and camCON. OK I do like the city as well but would never moor at the Jesus lock mooring.
  20. Cambridge is a great city, boating is a great way of life until you try to mix the 2.Unless your have oars and need loud and constant guidance from a twat on a bike with a loud hailer don't bother going there. The only visitors moorings are either sqatted on by shit looking boats or are frequented by druggies & alchies. The only safe and decent moorings are on Midsummer Common which is likely to get you a nasty letter which you should immediately ignore because all that will happen will be another exact same letter next day. Moor at Ely. Lovely welcoming city free mooring and only £4.50 for a train return taking only 17 minutes. Save your money boycott the most expensive 4 miles of navigation in the country, possibly the world.

  23. If you can't store it in the fridge , pop it in the freezer. It only takes a few minutes to defrost a slice.
