  1. Go there on a few occasions , for Sunday lunch , I would say it's not the best , but good value for money £10 for dinner , desert & coffee , which is not bad , but I do think there a lot off room for improvement , but the irish guy who owns the pub is always very welcoming , he offered to come & pick me & me other half up 10 miles away to come to his pub on New Year's Eve . Which I think is above and beyond hospitable
  2. I think we're victims off our own success , since the canals have been cleaned up it makes the canal side pub very desirable places to eat for everybody and therefore pushes up the prices I like pizza . I like the swan . I think I'll go the weekend & report back
  3. When I did mine , it was ok to leave your hand on there it got warm but not hot to touch , but this was just my experience & how I was advised to do it , I'm sure an adult will be along , did you turn the prop when you tightened the nuts
  4. P.s I've found there is 3 sizes of packing rope , make sure you replace with right size , it's a bugger you won't know until you remove old , so may pay to prepare a few different size packets
  5. I've just done mine as well , with advise from local boaters , as above pre cut packing x2 and put them in opposite say 10 & 4 o'clock I also cut mine on the angle like a piston ring , also when tighting your nuts on the gland only turn a quarter at a time and spin the shaft with your hand and as soon as you feel a slight resistance " stop " and tighten of your locking nuts , run the engine for about 20 mins in gear after and feel for over heating on the flange

  8. I think a lot off people may consider these the ugly part off the canals , but I find these areas quite interesting and find myself starring at them in some kind of beauty
  9. It's my friends son , they hopped on my boat for about 7 miles with there push bikes , maybe the thought off the cycle back & the dark clouds in the air , yes he about to turn into a teenager soon , I think they all look like that
  10. While traveling through Rugeley on the Trent & Mersey a few Sundays ago , the factory was in full operation . Are there many modern canal side factory's doing well ( pictures would be nice )
  11. Don't be shy in putting in stupid offers for a boat , if I had 15 k to spend on a boat I'll be looking at boats in the 20k market and putting in a silly offer , they can only say no . Plus it opens the door to negotiations , there a lot off boats out there and someone who's had there boat advertise for some time may want to get rid , plus in a couple off months just before winter you will find people may be moor willing to sell as they don't want the hassle and expense off keeping a boat over the winter
  12. Thanks for the great advise , when I past great Haywood the 1st time , I sort off shot the runway and missed all the mooring spots as like someone said very little moorings above the lock , so I proceeded to Weston on-Trent to the Saracens head for paint & some food . When I stopped & ask a local man " we're the Saracens head " he said you don't want to go there it's a yuppie pub " they won't let you take your ferrets in " so you've been warned " no ferrets in the Saracens head . On the way back we moored at the bottom lock at great Haywood & very nice it was to with the river & the pub was great , once again to all , who gave advise
  13. Thanks for the tips so far
  14. Are there plenty off moorings by the Clifford & what's the nearest bridge / lock On a personal view after great Haywood what's the best direction to go , was thinking off heading to stone but looks a bit grim after that we have 5 days to spare , just going to be takin it easy Donuts in boat
  15. Is there a pub nearby at Tixal as one of the party can't walk to well
  16. Hello fellow boaters looking for a good place to moor in great Haywood , I will be meeting up there with another boat coming up from gailey warf & I'll be coming up from fradley , our problem is we're coming in different directions , so we're planning to meet great Haywood to discuse our plans in a dog / kid / friendly pub over a few ales and make way in the morning for a 5 day cruise and back to great Haywood , any advise on we're to moor somewere near a turn as we have no plans of we're to go after great Haywood , any advise would be great

  18. Hello , I'm about to change wood burner , so whilst it's out I would like to re tile behind it , I'm thinking off tiling straight over the old tiles as I don't want to damage the heat boards behind when removing the old tiles , I'm really looking for advise on what adisive & grout to use when tiling over tiles on nb Thanks mat
  19. While I'm enjoying my 1st ever boat & dog , it's mainly a dog question , I have a 8 month old irish terrier cross and all her hunting traits are starting to shine throgh in the way off hunting rodents , if I'm not quick enough she will quite quickly devoure a mouse or a mole , she has had her normal injections , but I've here'd of another injection called lepto , I was basicly looking for advise on what other boat dogs have in the way of vaccinations ,
  20. I'm moored on a linear mooring ( my choice ) I would say that moor than 50% off boats pass my boat faster than walking speed , they know they are as they won't look you in the eye when I'm outside my boat , really don't understand why someone feels the need to do that. Seems a shame that so many people are in rush ..
