  2. I lost my confidence when I got bitten by Debdale Lock and stopped steering. The lord high Pooh Bah jumps off and helps whenever possible and I think we've got quite a good system going. I have also learnt to enjoy locking and go at my own pace, I enjoy the socializing in the summer and the exercise with the reasoning that the greater the difficulty the larger the gins at the end of the day. I will however make an exception for the Rochdale 9 and the Ashton 18. They were foul and only enlivened by the gay porn at one of the locks. I learnt quite a bit that day one way or another!
  3. After 26 years I still won't share a standard double with my husband. On our first outing on a NB we managed one night before going for the two bed option. We have a 5ft bed on our boat and that's fine for up to 3 weeks,. Go for the biggest bed you can. Relationships are a lot easier to maintain when you can both sleep comfortably. :
  4. Going to he boat and the BCLM were on the cards but the great pooh bah has cut his finger and tendon so we will be at home. He needs to be fit for the BCN challenge. Have fun everybody.

  7. We had virtually no experience when we bought our boat but we had great fun learning. Our boat was on the Llangollen when we bought her, we stayed up there for 6 weeks or so then we started the great trek south, via the Anderton boat lift, the Rochdale 9 and the Ashton canal, Bugsworth Basin, Froghall tunnel, the Wolverhampton 21'and some night cruising to get to the Living museum, and the Lapworth flight to our new base at Kingswood. We also had the added complication that we live on the Isle of Wight. We had a wonderful time and feel that we really know our boat now. We were heading for the K & A but reckoned that would take another two years, Don't think of it it as one long journey, just think of it as lots of little stages which are much more manageable. We felt the same as Ange when leaving our boat on the tow path but we took care where we left her and never had any trouble( with the boat that is,not Ange!) Just enjoy it, you've got a boat USE HER.

  9. Having an advisor is not quite the same as having an agent. I refer to my earlier comment about herding cats.
  10. Perhaps next time it would be a good idea if a candidate appointed an agent. I would assume the budget would be zero but a good agent could help with planing, ie where to go to get your message across and how to spread the word. I know with independents it would be like trying to herd cats but it could make quite a difference. I haven't fought an election for some time as an agent but the thought of planing and executing a really good campaign is really exciting. This post is in not intend as as slight on any ones campaign in the recent elections but could make a difference in the future.
  11. Hello everybody, this is my first posting so I'm hoping I'm doing things correctly. Would agree that cats and collars don't really go together unless you are prepared to get through lots of quick release ones. I've seen some nasty injuries caused by collars over the years. When you let her off the boat for the first time make sure it's before a meal time, then she won't be able to resist the sound of the cat fork on a tin. I haven't had a lot of boating experience but I've had a lot of cats over the years and have learnt that they are always more adaptable than you think. Good luck.
