  1. That all sounds good .... thanks .... and uxbridge is en route .... will reassemble tomorrow ...... hmmm whether or not I am allowed to use "proper" engineers bodging adhesive is questionable .... I think I am more of an "improper" engineer ..... and that is using the term engineer in it's loosest possible sense
  2. OK .... this is what Alan noticed in the bilge yesterday .... the key and this bolt / screw thing was also there So I put the key back in earlier and tightened everything up .... but the key and one of the taper thingys fell out again ... this time the key dropped into the rubber tyre type thingy (I like to use the technical terms to avoid any confusion ) So now I am here ..... and clearly that retaining bolt has sheared off .... so I am wondering if it is worth putting it back together with only 4 out of the 5 bolts that hold the plates together .... or if it will just come adrift again ..... Any suggestions as to where I might source a replacement in the Berkhamsted area ??
  3. hmmmm marston-bloody-doles wasn't the best of spots well first attempt at putting it back together was a resounding FAIL .... not sure why but she went fine for 100 yards then the coupling came apart again .... nice cup of tea and study these hilarious and helpful posts .... then back on it like the proverbial car bonnet
  4. Love this forum and all the help you get in a crisis Alan has just called in and spotted that the prop was turning slower behind the flexible coupling than in front .... and spotted that she has dropped the square key thingy and a grub screw ......phew!! not drive plate ..... Richard was on the phone and has given me some top tips for getting the key back in .... but tomorrow, methinks, as the light is going now .... and I always check my morse cables first after one breaking before .... hmmm that was fun .... but CHEERS everyone
  5. Yes .... that is exactly it, and yes slower i think ... still turning but no thrust .... ooer .... as it were BMC 1.5 with PRM I have now eaten a whole packet of chocolate digestives and am going back down the hole for another furtle thanks for tips so far
  6. Ah .... been there done that ..... well not the snorkelling ..... propeller still on tight and clean
  7. Ok .... I know online diagnosis is no good, but just while I'm having a brew and collecting my thoughts ..... as I left a lock earlier, I lost drive, forward and reverse .... thought it was just leaves at first ... No knocking or clattering noises ..... propeller there and tight and clean ..... oil in gearbox .... but no usual slight clunk as she goes into gear .... and no drive ...... helpful boater I was sharing lock with reckons drive plate gone .... I'm not very knowledgeable about that end of things (though I think I am about to become more knowledgeable), more used to things with wheels any thoughts? ..... any good mobile spannerwielders in the berkhamstead area? bunny
  8. Yes, they know I am the legal owner. In the case of the Strumpet, as the Triumph is affectionately known , she IS kept in one place .... and my friend rides her more than me, to keep her up together and running sweet ..... I ride her occasionally when I'm up north and my dodgy hip allows me to .... hardtails In the case of my other bikes, yes ... as I said, I informed the insurers that they move around with me and there was no problem, though the premium reflected that they were not kept in secure locked garage overnight
  9. Yeah .... green ash is fine .... old or green, fit for a queen. Lady Celia Congreve says so .... The Firewood PoemBeechwood fires are bright and clearIf the logs are kept a year, Chestnut's only good they say, If for logs 'tis laid away. Make a fire of Elder tree, Death within your house will be; But ash new or ash old, Is fit for a queen with crown of gold Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright and do not last, it is by the Irish said Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. Elm wood burns like churchyard mould, E'en the very flames are cold But ash green or ash brown Is fit for a queen with golden crown Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke, Apple wood will scent your room Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter's cold But ash wet or ash dry a king shall warm his slippers by. By Lady Celia Congreve
  10. Hmmm ... slightly but may be of use to some people .... I had no problems insuring two of my motorcycles .... one of which lives on the boat, the other at various friends as i move around ..... and I honestly advised the insurance company of this. BUT that company would not cover my triumph, which is a heavily modified custom classic ( ). I have been unable to get cover from custom bike insurers for her, because I don't live at the postal address I use, and the bike is kept at another address, some distance away but with greater security than Fort Knox. The only solution was to register my mate that looks after her as the "registered keeper", for him to insure her and put me on his insurance.

  13. I have decided to post only pictures showing the other side of the banter .... the gentle towpath walks (carrying a mug playing the Monty Python theme tune... like you do ) It was a fantastic few days of fun .... and swapping stories, tea and biscuits, walking, sharing food, taking pictures and weather ... plenty of weather ... oh ...and the odd pint or two ... . when you cruise continuously, you don't have a "local" where you can have a few beers with mates, and your neighbors are ever changing .... going to a banter is becoming a bit like nipping down the local, or just popping round to a mates for a brew familiar friendly faces with only one objective .... to PARTY .... massive thanks to everyone for a grand few days out Cheshire rose in her natural habitat the singing mug the rainbow's end .... Tiller Girl and time to go home
  14. Oooh goody I am off to the shop at about 9 o'clock ..... so if any other banterers are up at daft o'clock (excluding cheshire-rose, who is an earlier riser than me ) and need any supplies, let me know .... but NOT the whole weeks shopping as I'm on my motorsickle Also I will open my stall for a bit later, as a few people have asked, so wander up to the far flung outpost of the banter and say hello .... there is a far superior class of boater here .... might even be a drop of medicinal mulled wine available
  15. But the banter has started .... and as if I would do a thing like that
  16. They were exceptionally fine field shrooms, made a tasty biryani .... not seen such a good crop in one field for a long time ..... field on the left as you go up the braunston flight ....though i would not for one minute advocate shroom scrumping Hurrah for the Fairie ... and Smudge .... and Jan .... and Alan ... and everyone else who has done a smashing job getting this sorted .... Now can i be a nuisance and add a friend to the breakfast list and sat eve meal if possible ... though we may be too late for that? ... Ham egg and Chips again be fine Is there much room left to tie up? I will be heading up the braunston flight with Dr Bradley's Linctus in the morning

  22. Hmmm I don't think you need to drain the petrol ... and I don't .... but when I originally posted my pictures on here some harbingers of doom suggested I needed to to that to be a legal decent honest human bean so I thought I would share their helpful advice
