  1. Your boat is obviously too 'shiny'! You need to get that tarp and some junk! Seriously though, I think it would be good if the OP did try for some ... ahem ... 'contrasts'. Like also photographing some of the boats like the one Bargiepat suggested (on page 2 of this thread). Not all our 'lovely boat homes' are in the same style or have the same sort of contents, any more than I suppose our land-based homes might be.
  2. Aha! There's the first big difference! House - still got a mortgage Boat - cheap, and all paid for (OK, except for the work still needed to get it sorted - but that's now mostly cosmetic.) House - much more space to heat and light. Boat - cosy and warm, and a tendency to get up and go to bed with the sun But whatever floats your boat!

  4. Well, since the 'Stoners' section was the one I knew most about after the 'Babies', may be you're right!
  5. Of course living on a narrow boat is cheaper than living in a house! I'm amazed at the number of people who claim it isn't! All I can say is they must have a very expensive land-based life-style, and if they want to move that whole life-style onto a boat then yes, that would probable be more expensive. But in my experience life on the cut is very different from life in a house, and very much cheaper! Horses for courses! Re boat names: I'm thrilled to see my boat's name has at last appeared in Jim Shead's list - and it's unique!
  6. Far too American! I had to Google loads of the things in those sets! (The one I knew most about was the 'Babies'! ) Please can we have some UK sets?
  7. Thanks I didn't get a 'Before' picture of the inside, but I hope to be able to post 'After' pictures of the outside when it's done
  8. That image is somewhat mind boggling And there was me thinking you were just trying to 'smoke' ( ) out the users, so you knew who to approach when you wanted to 'score'
  9. Oooh! Please sir! I agree with everyone, please will everyone give me a greenie? Thank you very much
  10. To right! I've seen many a large carp on this forum, and boy do they make a disturbance! To hot for a coat - gimme me sun-hat

  12. You're in the wrong thread, Bizz! The one about boating 'under the influence' is in another forum!
  13. No, but the first question is usually "Miss! Miss! Can I borrow a ruler?" ETA Don't know what this has to do with drugs, other than the fact that I could do with some after a session like that!
  14. I support students with Special Needs to enable them to take their GCSEs. GCSE Foundation Level Maths. Question 1) Draw a line 9 cm long. Question 2) Make a mark x half way along it. And this is the paper ALL students doing Foundation Level take, not just those with Special Needs!

  16. But the land under your boat (and under the water) belongs to BW! That's why they charge you!
  17. This isn't a good example of an oxymoron. Actually, it's more of an example of a dichotomy! Lancelot is being faithful to Guinevere in a relationship in which she is being unfaithful to her husband and he is being unfaithful to the king to whom he has sworn allegiance. So while her is behaving 'honourably' towards her, they are in a dishonourable relationship. He is being 'faithful' to her, while in a relationship which is intrinsically unfaithful to his king; he is being true to Guinevere, while they are both being false to King Arthur. Back to the point: I think the result of Mr Brown's case is a perfect example of the way the law operates within strict confines - ask the wrong question and you won't get the answer you were hoping for!
  18. When my son bought his first boat it was a complete mess inside as three drunks had been living on it, out of their skulls most of the time. The owner sold it after one of the three staggered 'home' to the boat so drunk and / or stoned that he fell in the cut and drowned and the the others didn't even noticed for several days that he hadn't come back. This was about 15 years ago. So, yes, it can be dangerous to drink and / or take drugs on a boat (as indeed it can be anywhere, in excess or in hazardous situations). But no, in my opinion it's not a recent phenomenon.
  19. I have to admit it (and pray that my ex doesn't read this forum!) My kids adapted the Rosie and Jim song, inserting the names of their father and step-mother, to " ***** and *****, ***** and *****, and the man who sinks the boat!" after their dad left his weed hatch not properly fastened, and did indeed sink his boat! Mustn't laugh! Mustn't ...
  20. Really???? You've been lucky then, that's all I can say! Of my four, there are three who will regularly do that! My son's boat cat has been with him on the boat since she was a few weeks old. She also goes 'home' in the car with him to Wales, where her sister lives full time apart from occasional visits to the boat. Before they travel he gives them a dose of Zylkene, which is suitable for cats and dogs, and which is supposed to calm them down when facing stressful situations. You can get it from a vet, or buy it on t'internet.
  21. We bought our boat last year .... on ebay! Yes, we got a survey but we had more or less committed to buy it on a visual inspection, because it was so cheap and son is a champion DIYer. It's a David Piper, originally built in 1990 and subsequently extended to 55 ft. The inside was mostly OK, and the hull will do a couple more years before it needs attention. (It had been out of the water 7 years when we bought it so we blacked it before putting it back in.) Inside is now looking good and the outside paintwork is this summer's project. I would definitely agree that as long as the hull is sound and the engine good, an old boat can be a good investment. If you are prepared to do much of the work yourself you can definitely end up with a boat worth more than you paid. Because ours was such a 'steal' it has more than doubled in value already!
  22. Saw no less than three lots of Rosie and Jim dolls in the windows of boats between Stockers and Batchworth at the Ricky Canal Festival last weekend! (My grandchildren were delighted! )
  23. Lidl had a cassette loo on sale for £40 last week! If you're serious check it out. It's not marked as Thetford on the box, but it is a Thetford! (We found the mark.) It has a double depth cassette too! Bargain!
  24. Inside of the boat more or less finished - just the bedroom to go. (and a water heater for the kitchen and shower room.) Feels very 'homely' Outside? Well, summer's coming!
