  1. Hi thanks for your response here are the details you asked about Exactly what did the surveyor say needed fixing? And what was the estimated cost? Thetford toilet is not flushing, interior lights are not working, tunnel light is not working, sterling battery charger is not working. No quote was given as to how much these would cost to fix the surveyor refuses to do this. in addition various boat safety issues which were verbally quoted as £300 but I want to see the safety certificate issued before I believe them. the surveyor has not tested the washing machine of the electric heater or Microwave. I am wanting to see that these work. I did make the offer on agreement that everything was working, but it was a verbal agreement Do the marina own the boat, or are they merely the broker? They are the broker How much did you pay as a deposit? £1,000 How much is the boat? The boat is advertised at £34,950.00, I offered £30,000.00 subject to survey Can you provide a web link to it? I could but am worried about what the legal situation is Which marina? Again I could but am worried about what the legal situation is can anyone clarify what the situation is here
  2. Hi thanks for your response, the deposit was paid, subject to survey, (sorry I should have stated that) and I cant pull out for "personal reasons" I have to say that I thought that meant If my personal situation changed and I could no longer afford it or something similar. Not that the marina employees would do their pest to prevent a working relationship, then claim I it's personal. I can't see how I can prove they lied as all actions after paying the deposit have been arranged verbally
  3. Hi I am in a similar situation, I have to tell you that now the hard work starts to happen, I am finding the negotiation process to get the boat into a working state after seeing the survey results very difficult. I wish you all the best and have streanth
  4. Hi all not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes My situation is that I have put a deposit on a boat. the marina is trying to pressurize me into paying money for the boat before I can see things that the surveyor has said need to be fixed are fixed. And the fings that they are claiming are working, are indeed working. there has been some work done on the boat, (blaking and anodes) this was on the agreement that the money offered for the boat was for a boat that is working. The Marina employees have lied to me on several occasions and are doing their absolute best to annoy me with their tissy fits so they can claim I am pulling out for "personal reasons", basically I have realized that the Marina would never give the deposit back and will always lie about the situation to make it sound like I am acting unreasonably. My question is how do experienced people go about buying a boat if you are supposed to put a deposit on the boat but realize that the marinas can never be trusted to return your deposit? So with this in mind has anyone here had to pull out of a boat deal and seen their deposit returned?
  5. I quite like the Logo, I like the way it has appeared to evolve from the old BW one, I suspect that an alternative will be worse and probably involve printing in more than 2 coulors at greater expense
  6. alan_fincher ,thanks for the advice the bellow waterline welding is something I will get a surveyer to look at if it gets that far Neil2 ,hi you ask on what criteria i Like these boats, on the SW Durham one I like the look and feel of both the exterior and interior but think it needs more equipment. on the Stowe Hill one I like the specifications better as it has the equipment that I perceive to be desirable but not so much the looks. I like the bedroom to the rear, saloon to front layout on both boats. I don't know much about engines, really I just want one that functions, I was hoping a surveyor could tell me if they were in decent condition, can they? I don't know what to look for in quality of construction, being new to boating I know nothing of the constructors reputation, what should I look for? I am attracted to the look and feel of porthole windows, but I guess I will need to look at boats with both types of windows before a final decision. I do take your point about ease of resale but at the same time it does it make sense to buy something I don't like just because it may be easier to resell? On the whole I tend to stick with what I have rather then sell, I usually keep cars for years until they are worth very little. Having said that your advice is appreciated, it is early days for me I will continue to look at other boats and will bear in mind what you have said. Whilst I have an image of what my perfect boat would look like I am unlikely to be able to get it on my budget and will have to compromise about something It's just which thing should it be. Darren72 Yes I will certainly look several times before making an offer
  7. Thanks for the reply it has given me stuff to think about, I hope to view them both at the beginning of next week but may not be able to find the time
  8. Hi, I am new to boating and this forum, I am considering buying a boat and becoming a livaboard Continuous Cruiser. I have done some research including reading many posts on this forum which I have enjoyed very much, so I hope that my questions aren't too tedious. I am hoping to buy a NB for £30,000 I would like it to be 45ft, have trad stern, cassette toilet and a washing machine. I am flexible about the length say 10ft either way. I have been thinking about this boat http://www.braunstonmarina.co.uk/Findaboat/tabid/66/id/261/boat-name/Allsorts/Default.aspx which I like very much, My concern with it is that when I first saw it it was priced at 29,000 it went down to 27,000, it then had a period of being "Under Offer" this period ended and now it is priced at 25,000 this all happened in just a couple of months. My suspicion is that the offer was subject to a survey that then turned up nasties and the sale did not go through? Is there another logical explanation for this series of events? also why the rapidly decreasing price quote? Obviously I would get a survey before buying but they are not cheap and if the signs are that it has problems I would rather save the money. I feel that I would need to improve the specification by adding a washing machine, which would also require plumbing and a new inverter would it not? and I would like a diesel heating system, Webasto or similar and a couple of radiators. what would these modifications cost roughly, could I afford it? Where would be a good place to do to get this work done? Is the Rockwool insulation adequate for a livaboard boat? or do I need better insulation? Another boat I am considering is http://www.braunstonmarina.co.uk/Findaboat/tabid/66/id/306/boat-name/Eclipse/Default.aspx it has a much better specification but the sellers would have to accept a lower offer, some of the styling is not to my taste but how hard can replacing the carpet, the kitchen unit doors and some other minor interior decoration be? would this be a more viable option then improving the other boat? I am aware that everyone has their own solutions and what is best is what works for the owner, but any guidance or just personal opinions on these matters would be very much appreciated, thank you for taking time to read my post and thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer
