  1. thanks for all the info, I am deffinately taking legal advice and will be making sure the brokers are aware.
  2. the boat had never been on water until we launched her in 2012, the broker told us that the boat had been brought to the marina on a lorry and was put straight on blocks. we kept it on land to save us the license fees until we wanted to use it on the canal. does this make sense ??
  3. The brokers have not got back to me yet, and It is 5 years from when its is first used as a recreational craft i have checked this out with the canal and rivers trust, who were not interested as long as it is legally licensed and BSS certified which it is. Can i issue this annex15a or does it have to be done by a "proper" surveyor. The boat is far from being completed as illness has stopped the project. C&R trust say the annex3a was only valid for the first year then an annex15a comes into force for the remaining 4 years. which i assume applies to our boat
  4. thanks i have tried collingwood they say they haven't got the records it looks like we have been duped on the age of the boat as well. How can people get away with this especially narrowboat brokers? who are you supposed to trust if not them !!!
  5. thanks for the info, i have found a HIN but it is nothing like the long digits it needs to be, I have checked with the boat builders and they do not have the records as they do not go back that far. apparently i need a annex15a which covers the four years after the annex 3a but again this is information i have only just found out. It looks like we have been sold an "illegal" boat by the brokers. I am going to check my insurance policy to see if we have legal cover as as some have pointed out it should not have been sold to me in the first place without the correct paperwork, surely the brokers can be held accountable?. We are gutted
  6. Hi all, this has probably been covered many times but i cant find the answers i need. We bought a sailaway in 2011 that had been on land and never been launched. When we bought the boat, through a supposedly reputable marina, we were given no paperwork apart from the bill of sale . when we launched the boat in 2012 the marina organised a BSS certificate and we also licenced the narrowboat. We are now having to sell the boat due to medical reasons and we have someone who really wants her. We have not finished the fit out but we have opened a proper can of worms as quite rightly the buyer is asking for an anexe 3a. Now when we bought the boat through the marina we were never told the ins and outs of RCDs or Annexe 3as or anything relating to these rules and regulations. The original builders were Liverpool boats who have been taken over by Collingwood, and they do not have any relevant documentation for this boat. I have phoned the canal and river trust and the boat is legally licensed and the BSS is legal too. We really need to sell the boat and the buyer is helping all he can to resolve this he loves the boat. Where do we go from here any advice is most welcome.
  7. there is a website called black country metalworks, they do some lovely brass narrowboat fittins including tiller arms and pins they also provide a bispoke service and the prices are very reasonable, i have had the mushroom vents from them and they are lovely just got link http://www.blackcountrymetalworks.co.uk/ go to products, hardware store, they are all under narrowboat accessories
  8. hi, as a newbie to these forums im reading through for hints and tips, my husband and i recently purchased a 45ft stern cruiser which came with a cover on the stern deck not the pram hood type but did its job of keeping the water out of the stern, after owning the boat for a few weeks some ******* has used a blade to cut a section out of the side containing 3 press-stud tops, so now i have a nice, section missing. mad or what!. it would be nice if the material could be "slash" proof also love the idea of insect netting, my self i love to hear the rain on the roof (find it very relaxing) and in nice warm weather would sit out with a canopy up in the rain just chilling .... blow up hot tub, candles, glass of wine and a good book blissssssssssssssssssssss now if i can just convince the hubby lol
  9. Thank you for all your wonderful advice. I feel loads better now about it and not so worried. I will get it rubbed down and primed in the areas needed and start with a new undercoat asap. Rust treatment is purchased to treat the bare areas. As I mentioned before the majority of the paint is sound and quite smooth to the feel with no signs of rust spotting at all. Just one more quick question though, do I just put one more undercoat on top of the one already done or 2 undercoat then 1 topcoat? Thanks again
  10. Hello and welcome to our forum . . .

  11. hi all we have recently purchased a 45ft narrowboat and have now found out through marina neighbours that the previous owner "tidied" up the boat pre-sale with a simple paint job. the boat is a sailaway about 4 years old. it was bought as a project boat by the previous owner and has never been in water. the information we have been given is that the boat (with being stood) went completely rusty on the outside top section. (when we saw the boat we knew it had been undercoated in a dark grey and the finished was quiet smooth, i used my hand to feel this.) i have started using a wire brush to get off the small pin head type rust spots and they remove easily. but when rubbing a larger area round a window the paint came away and it went down to shiny metal. now i am wondering if he used a primer before undercoating, i cannot get hold of the seller to check as he has apparantly moved abroad. how can i tel,l or if it appears no primer then what do i do, all the rest of the paint seems fine no rust and didnt flake when wire brushed. any advice welcome but please play nice lol.
