  1. This topic is in line with some of my thoughts recently and leads me to this question: What is the best job to have to allow you to make the most of narrow boating? At the moment I’m changing careers and training to be a teacher, I hope to use the holidays to get out and about on the canal system a bit more. However, thinking a bit more I was wandering if there are any jobs which are fairly universal (nursing or teaching for instance) where you could move and live on the boat, do agency work for a bit and move on again? Or maybe jobs where you can work remotely from the boat? I’m feeling like ditching the marina and becoming a (legitimate) continuous cruiser.
  2. Hi, just thought I'd post my photos from our trip down the Severn estuary last Friday. We were in force 4, wind against tide which lead to the boat taking on a bit water and silly me I had blocked the scuppers, don't block the scuppers if you ever make the trip! :S There were two pilots available as a ship decided to stay in dock so we were also accompanied by NB Evolution. Prep included engine service, cratch cover, long ropes (15m), blocking engine room vent, and getting fuel tank cleaned as well as making sure that all the safety kit was up to scratch.
  3. I had a cover made by "Wilsons" 2/3 months ago and was told that I would get the cover VAT free because they were restructuring and the new company was under the VAT threshold, the company was just coming out of a "shut down" period. My cover does not have the Wilsons logo on it so I'm assuming it's not made by the old company.
  4. Thanks for the welcome! :)

  5. Thanks for the great responses everyone, I'm just interested in getting hold of spares really. Interested to know the dangers that an old stove would pose leo?: I noticed that the firebrick at the back seems to have a split down the middle although it is still all in the right place, will it need replacing? Thanks to everyone again!
  6. I have a stove that came with my narrowboat but I have no idea what brand / model it is. Does anyone have any idea? I have been unable to find any markings that might give any clues although there does appear to be some fixings on the back, maybe for a back boiler. Any thoughts on this would be great! Thanks
