  1. I don't disagree about how all users have a responsibility but as a SPO user do you understand that not all elsans are up to the job?
  2. Paul, the usual method of SPO is to put the hose Down the elsan and pump away, your method seems to be a hybrid of SPO and cassette. I think that your system is an anomaly and certainly not something I have seen before. The deal is, and as has been said that many of our elsan points can't cope with the amount of shite from a SPO in one go. I don't begrudge a single penny being spent... On a decent pump out.

  4. I think it's a mixture of both, I imagine that in more remote locations a septic tank set up is used, and this, will obviously have more problems with SPO.
  5. So let me get this straight, some folk have made the choice (fair enough) to crap in a big tank, pump out big tank into small tank, take small tank of crap to elsan and empty. Isn't that just a convoluted cassette system where you have to 'handle' your shite twice? The issue is twice-fold with spo's in my opinion. One is, as Carl says the high risk of contamination, I don't believe that dipping a shitty hose into the cut is alright.. And also the 'soak away' capabilities of the elsan if being pumped directly, the ability for it to be able to deal with that much at that time. I am lucky in that we have a local pump out boat that 'passes' (geddit) us fortnightly and a pump out machine near by.

  9. We also had a tiny newt living in the cabin bilge, under the inspection hatch, I think they are ace!

  11. Hi Richard, can I interest you in some anchor chain? You may not quite have enough...

  13. We see quite a few coconuts and flower garlands down in Brentford, they make their way from southall where I believe they are thrown in the cut as a substitute Ganges, all part of the wonderful melting pot that is London. I think Richard (RWLP) once opened or saw a coconut opened and believed to contain ashes. I think that was him?
  14. Really sad news, our thoughts are with you
  15. Yeah I saw the one in Brentford the other day, they quite often pop up there so worth nipping In as well. When we first moved onto boat we fully broke the rules and rented an old tub for far too much money, it was all good though as we were fully aware of the risk that we decided to take, we knew that we had little in the way of tenure and insurance and that was good for us. It gave us a stepping stone to buying our own boat. The only niggle, or worry that I had is that if the boat we were on caused damage to someone else. I would not advise for or against but would urge you to know exactly what the risks are and the rest, is up to you. Oh, and if you do decide to take this route, keep yer head down!
  16. Yes, loads of rubbish as well, the coal bags make me the angriest!
  17. I'll have a look on Iplayer, cheers
  18. Yes, It's just another dance I find myself having to do with the devil!
  19. Yeah, that's the rub, I have a phone contract, debit card and various other bits and bobs but have been refused a credit card on the grounds of the electoral register. I don't really want a credit card but will want to look for a boat loan at some point soon. I guess that if I am to get a marine mortgage then I would need a full resi anyway, so I will have to do that be first. Interesting predicament that we find ourselves in.

  21. Yes because what this world needs is people who are less sensitive, happy to conform and shout the word DEMOCRACY when ever given two options isn't it! It was clear from your original comment that your panties were in a wad when, as a throw away comment, I let slip that I might have issues with this current system. In return you have taken it upon yourself to give me yet more options and choices that I didn't ask for and didn't want. I'm glad that the democratic system of our nation works well for you, however you aren't a sales man for it and I am not buying. Meanwhile, back at the ranch.....
  22. More options Anarchy communism socialism Dictatorship Absolute monarchies Military junta states And so on, I am not questioning your right to suggest such a thing, just the snotty manor in which your post comes across. I thank you for your options but I will also seek others if that's ok?
  23. A little unwarranted wasn't it? I don't think that there is anything wrong with questioning a political system and comparing that with a brutal dictatorial regime is somewhat of a leap don't ya think?
  24. Thanks all, the voting ting I can give or take, I'm still not convinced by democracy... However, I am about to wed, join bank accounts and eventually knock on the doors of Roy Scott Larch (lark?) in pursuit of a bigger boat. Knowing that marine mortgages are tenuous as is I have no doubt that this will cause a problem. We are a couple of years off but that'll happen soon enough I'm sure. Maybe a resi mooring is the way and then register proper? Beers soon please Lucy, Will you be coming through on a weekend? Maybe we could hope on up to the fox or something? Thanks again, Anyone else note that boaters without address are in the same category as people with mental Ill health, homeless etc.
  25. Hi all, I have recently discovered that I have an excellent credit rating except for one point. I am not registered on the electoral roll. This is because I didn't bother going through the faff of proving a local connection (no address) last time as I didn't want to vote. I am now going to register as I want to vote and to try and up my credit score. For those that want to see how to register without an address, see section 5 http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/__data/assets/electoral_commission_pdf_file/0011/43958/Part-F-Special-category-electors-March-2010.pdf My question is, if I register as a local connection, will this be recorded as me being on the election register and actively and positively affect my credit score. The lack of registration seems to be the only sticking point of the rating. Thanks in advance Rob
