  7. Absolutely. That's all he knows. Glad someone else noticed. Tone

  9. Sophie likes rats.... dead. I was once woken by the then Mrs Drifter banging on the boat window at 6AM shouting, "Sophie's got a rat!" She was on a lead at the time too (Sophie, not the then Mrs Drifter). I made her drop it eventually, but not before she'd snapped it's neck (the rat's, not Sophie's). Good girl! Tone
  10. Lack of insurance, with H&S, was one of the reasons why (I was told in a user group meeting) that BW couldn't use volunteers, until recently. I'm wondering whether volunteers have to sign a declaration absolving BW from any claims, or whether they've sorted the situation? Tone
  11. Thanks for that, Kev. Sometimes us grumpy old boaters need to be reminded how enthusiastic we once were. Tone

  14. It's a good ballad anyway. It certainly records the distain that some riparian landowners had for boaters in the early days (perhaps even now) and the ruthlessness of toll clerks. Mind you, I usually check to see whether there are any farmers in the audience before singing it! I'm inclined to believe David when he states that he wrote it around fragments of a boater's song. 15. A vote of thanks to those guys. Filthy job well done. Whats needed now is CCTV to catch the bu&&ers who throw stuff in. Tone
  16. I fitted a small computer cooling fan in my holding tank vent connection, held within a rubber 3 ins pipe connector, reduced to vent size pipework at each end. It runs 24/7, and a fan usually lasts a couple of years. It creates a very slight vacuum in the tank air space, so any smells do not creep out of the WC bowl when it's being flushed. It works well. Problem is, I've now run out of small computer fans. Must get to a boot fair. Tone
  17. Not here.... in a thread about CCing, no. But maybe if you started a thread about the UK's military commitments to the rest of the world.... well.... America.... then maybe we would? Tone
  18. Get a dog. Tone I do know that some boaters with self-pump-out kits empty their holding tanks whilst boating in tidal rivers such as the Ouse and Trent, and apparently that is still legal. Tone
  19. Maybe not. What I have in mind IS 'simply a particular mooring site or position' (away from any habitation), which, according to the above is not a 'neighbourhood or locality'. Fun innit? Tone
  20. Bazza, as you have not used it yet, it might be worth trying brewers yeast instead of blue as a dissolver of solid waste. Once blue has been used this can't be done as the yeast is killed off by any trace of blue, but with a new tank it could work. It also has the added attraction that your WC will smell like a brewery rather than stink of blue. Tone
  21. Under the mooring guidance notes (OP link) it states: So.... BW define a 'place' as an inhabited neighbourhood whether rural or urban. However, many CCers, myself included, like to moor up for days right out in the sticks miles from any habitation at all. But according to BW's above interpretation, such 'spots' are not 'places', so therefore, maybe, the CC guidance does not apply to them? Perhaps the 14 day max mooring rule does, but if such a rural mooring exists between two urban neighbourhoods, then maybe my time is not limited to being at either place for a max of 14x2 days? Could I shuffle along my lonely urban countryside mooring for as long as I like, in between these 'places'? If I did would anybody care? If a boat moves in the forest does anybody hear? Just a thought, whilst attempting to make a 'sensible and pragmatic judgement' about it all. Tone
