  2. With this highlighted on the horizon surely it is time for canal users, of all types, to band together and make their voice heard. Someone has mentioned the prospect of groups being formed to help purchase some of these assests for canal users and to be fun by canal users. Are the actual canals being sold or just assets along the banks. I am led to believe there is a lot of land that could be utilised better. So, again, canal users need to make their voices heard and think of some constructive ways that change can occur. Influence the future for the better. Just a thought.
  3. It's part of Googles Adsense scheme. Should be relatively harmless. Has been popping up on all sorts of sites that use Adsense.

  5. The Witham that runs down from Lincoln to Boston in Lincolnshire is quite a nice run. Generally quiet and with some lovely countryside away from the beaten track. Also out on the fens there are a fair few large drainage dykes that make for excellent adventures especialy in a canoe.

  9. Hi Carl, At the minute I haven't seen any other publication. I am guessing that Waterways World will carry a piece, I hope. Good man on deducing the Ratty / Bob identities. On the Towpath forum I am known as Ratty (favourite children's character - reminds me of how the waterways should be used - for fun and leisure) and here I am plain old Bob . Have you heard anything about this seeming war of words? Cheers, Bob (aka Ratty) Must add that to my signature ... could be AKA the Notorious Mr. Ratty... or some such
  10. Just seen the latest issue of Towpath Talk and the cover story focuses on the Barry Gardiner's evidence to the EFRA sub committee which seems to say that BW financial plan is to blame for their budget cut? Seems a little harsh at first sight... what have other people heard?
  11. Out on the river with the canoes over the weekend and had a splashingly good time. Picnic weather was in much abundance as was laughter and cheer. Though our poor little dog discovered that standing on nettles is not so good for the paws! Saw many boats cruising and much polishing, cleaning etc in the marinas.
  12. Cheers Mr. Dixon, The dinghies in the picture are the same as the Gull that my father has. I think he has been in contact with the Gull Class Association and was happily surprised to learn the near complete history of his boat when asked for the sail number. Thanks again for the links and wonderful pic of Gulls out racing.
  13. Only the name assigned to the wireless network will tell you if you are welcome to hop onboard, so to say. Something like SpilsbyFREENet as a network name my give a hint. Where as MINE_GET_YOUR_THEIVING_MITTS_OFF might indicate some hostility. In all honesty if the network has a family name on it it is probably a private household who have not bothered to encrypt (protect) their private wireless network, or do not know how to. Hence, it would be polite to ignore them and not steal their 'bandwidth'. As for commission from TT... again I wish... just a reader and must admit I do like it. Haven't really had a chance to read the other magazines and newspapers as yet. Plus I like a FREE read.
  14. My father bought a Gull Spirit dinghy a couple of years ago and i'm just wondering if anyone else has had or has one?
  15. Wish I was. As I work with the internet I do have a slight interest in this subject... sad I know. Remembered that a few months ago they ran a piece on a pricey but good bit of kit... quick look at the back issues and bingo.. just not the jackpot!
