Lock 3 GUC SEP05\'\'.JPG

Hand forged shaft hook found in the Grand Union. This example has the 'chain hole' most probably designed for locking the tool to the boat in the early days of horse drawn boats. As there was no accomodation cabin the boatman would return to his house at night making it necessary to lock valuable items securely to the boat.

Andrew,

Love the gallery - what a collection!

Did you pull them all out with your magnets?

Best Wishes,

All found with the magnet except the wooden strapping post B) and one windlass was given to me by someone who had found it with a magnet.
