Sectan is now owned by George and Elaine, members of the Vintage Marine Engine Club and I believe they live aboard in Beverley

I've got a feeling (though I would have to start ploughing through my books to confirm) Hodgson's had a bigger fleet but Victor Waddington just bought the 4.

They did indeed have 17 boats:

Nice one Carl.

I think that the boats that worked for Hodgsons were not new to them, and all had other names before becoming "tans". You probably guessed that my Irish mate has joined the forum, so any more gen you uncover will be very welcome.

Please keep the book in mind!

My parents live in Cottingham so, next time I visit, I'll nip to Beverley (about 5 miles away) to see if I can get a look at Hodgson's archives and, hopefully, copy the relevant bits.

Done a bit more digging and it would seem that the "***tan" keels were built for Hodgson's, by Hepworths, of Paull, in 1950.

Most of the others were bought second hand but their first new build, in 1940, was "Richard" (presumably named after Richard Hodgson but I have no evidence of that), built as a dumb barge, by Dunstons of Thorne, in 1940 and motorised in 1943.

Hepworth's are still in business so it might be worth contacting them:

Hepworths Clicky

I looked into the archives situation a bit more and discovered that the size of the archives is "12 cubic feet". I'm afraid, when documents are measured by the cubic foot, my thirst for knowledge lessens, so I won't be going to look. Sorry!

I'm trying to trace Hodgson's of Beverley Dritan in order to obtain photographs on behalf of my Uncle.

Both my Father and two Uncle 's worked for Hodgson's. Archie White was the Skipper of Dritan

Winston White was the Skipper of Richard and Leslie Martin was the Skipper of Sectan.

Hopefully someone afloat maybe able to help.
