Just spoke to a boat painter friend of mine and he is going to re paint over the Satin (will use as the under coat after a sanding) in Top Lac for me and show me how it's done. 

Not ideal using the Satin as a undercoat but it will suffice.

Dulux Wethershield from the DIY sheds is water based. Dulux Trade Wethershield Exterior High Gloss from Dulux Decorator Centres and some other trade outlets is solvent based.

 

Dulux Trade Metalshield Satin is solvent based and claims to be suitable for exterior metalwork.
